"So they say on TV that Obama just balanced the budget."

My response: "The people on TV don't know anything."

I'm sticking to the Food Network too.

    I'm underwhelmed by this crop of (5.00 / 1) (#5)

is the first year that I have watched it, so I can't compare it to other years. I honestly thought Mary whatever was going to be toast but they cut Whitney instead (not to be a sexist, but I liked me some Whitney, she was cute.) I'm just surprised because the Mary-named participant seems to be on the chopping block every week and never gets it (which is fine, I think she is good too.) Do you think it was because Whitney looked a little bit like Rachel Ray? The resemblance was really noticeable last week.

IMHO, it will come down to Suzy and Jeff (Vic doesn't bring either the positive or negative from me, he is just not that interesting to me) and Jeff will win, although I will be rooting for Suzy. Jeff's picture is in the dictionary under 'milquetoast,' which is sometimes good for tv (he is probably the slickest one left by far) but there is no 'there' there. Suzy has something that is definitely there.

Suzy also has the advantage of focusing on Mexican food, which is very popular and has a very wide range of possibilities, while there are only so many sandwiches that you can make or want to hear about, although Jeff may bring more males, especially young males, to the network, which is an important demo.

Sorry for being longwinded, I wanna focus on this instead of the politics, which have just about destroyed me today. Of course, having a knife stuck in your back does kinda suck.

    It's really a mediocre show (none / 0) (#7)

and always has been. Yet I continue to watch.

but man, am I glad I don't have to try to explain this to her.  (She was a major lefty who literally had nightmares in her last years about Dick Cheney chasing her around in the woods with a machete and woke up sweating and terrified, so she would have hated, hated, hated this whole business-- if she could have followed it.  Sigh.)

with the background to understand exactly what is going on. She just doesn't have the time to follow it.

That tells me that almost nobody will know anything other than "the economy still sucks and Obama is President."

He would have had a heart attack chasing her around with a machete. Now if he had a shotgun...

One of my great regrets (none / 0) (#14)

is that she died a few months before Cheney shot that guy in the face.  I would have so loved to have been able to tell her that story!

Curiosity...are we the only two here that happily ride the roller coaster looking at the horizon, rather than worry about the day to day ebb and flow of the stock market? (much to my daughter's chagrin, it's the only roller coaster I have the stomach for)

BTW, looks like we will be correct at least for one day as to how the market reacts to the potential deal.

But that's also something I learned from my mother, who though unschooled in finance was a savvy investor.  She never paid any attention to the Dow because her investments weren't reflected by it.

And again, every financial adviser on the planet advises diversifying holdings so problems in one sector only affect one sector, and then holding tight through periodic down periods rather than panicking.

to Denver's own Missy Franklin on her (first) performance at the Worlds.  Two golds, a silver and a bronze--not bad for a sixteen year old.  Great kid out of the water and she's going to be a super-star in it.

Good luck at the trials, Missile!
