One Down, One To Go

Bob Bradley Fired.

Geithner soon, I hope.

Boehner does not have the votes yet. If he is having problems now, how is he going to survive a compromise bill? Tea Party won't take yes for an answer. If nothing passes today, I think the markets take a big hit tomorrow.

Santa Claus will get fired before Geithner... (5.00 / 2) (#2)
by Dadler on Thu Jul 28, 2011 at 04:43:25 PM EST
...ever gets a word of rebuke, much less his boots- are-made-for-walking papers.  Rudolph and Donner and Blitzen and the rest will be outta work long before ol' Timmy Boy.  Might be this x-mas season, too, the way this economy is sucking the life outta 95+ percent of us.  Then again, Superman keeps that Fortress of Solitude up there at the North Pole, so maybe St. Nick and the Man of Steel can pair up to really open a can of whoop-ace on DC.

It's all comics at this  point, ain't it?

Musically, for some reason, John Prine's DEAR ABBY is in my head today.  (LINK)

Not just on a personal level (I buried my mom and dad, too), but on a larger level.  The sun is setting, not just on the small towns, but on the whole country, if we don't get this mess straightened out and start to work together.  But the song is a catharsis, as well as a dirge and a warning, for what has been lost and may never be regained if we are not very, very careful.  Plus, it was great to see Emmylou Harris singing with Iris- I love Emmylou.

I thought, Good -- I never did like the guy much.  Then I thought, Hey when did the Obama admin hire Bill Bradley, and for what position?

    Oh -- Bob ...

Frankly, it's a yawner of a story whether they'd kept him or not.   The US Women's Soccer Team is now officially far more interesting to watch and follow.

Other than that, the start of American football is just a few weeks away, college and pro.  Will try to forget about all that nasty news about concussions and root again for my '49ers to come out of a 15-year slump and return again to the SB.

    And the good news (5.00 / 1) (#53)
by NYShooter on Thu Jul 28, 2011 at 10:09:02 PM EST
    Keeps pouring in:

Latest poll show Gov. Perry of Texas leading Pres, Obama in North Carolina by three points, even though Perry hasn't declared his candidacy.

And, while Obama leads Gov. Mitt Romney, the Republican frontrunner, by  four points in Virginia, that's a drop of seven points since the last poll.

Something here just doesn't make sense though. Throughout his career Obama didn't care how many of his "friends" he through under the bus, but his goal, at least, was to win the next election. So now that he's thrown virtually the entire Democratic Party under the bus, what's his goal now?

    To send a memo to Indies telling them (5.00 / 1) (#54)
by MO Blue on Thu Jul 28, 2011 at 10:18:37 PM EST
that they support him. So far they haven't gotten the message. Obama's plans to woe Independent voters is really, really working. They just don't seem to know it yet.

This shift is driven by a steep drop-off in support for Obama among independents. The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted July 20-24 among 1,501 adults and 1,205 registered voters finds that just 31% of independent voters want to see Obama reelected, down from 42% in May and 40% in March. Where Obama held a slim 7-point edge among independent registered voters two months ago, a generic Republican holds an 8-point edge today.

This is consistent with a drop in Obama's approval among all independents. Currently, a majority (54%) disapprove of Obama's performance for the first time in his presidency. His approval among independents has slipped to 36% from 42% last month and 49% in late May. Pew

Good thing independent voters don't need jobs and that I'm the only independent voter who values and receives Social Security and Medicare. I heard rumors from other polls that independent voters actually support Medicaid. Fancy that.

by klassicheart on Fri Jul 29, 2011 at 01:52:02 AM EST
This is about interests. Shame has no part in this.  It's a game about power and interests. I certainly hope the oil interests in the state of Texas don't have a secret plan to elect Perry...like they did Bush.  That would be frightening. It's also clear that there is no Democrat who has emerged with leadership potential.  The Dems look hapless...but maybe that is the plan.  One 4 year stint for a loser like Obama after the rip off of Bush and the oil interests come back into power with Perry.  But the left and elite fell for Obama hook line and sinker.  Suckers. The working class Dems knew he was a sham.

I just heard a report from a rightie that Louis Gohmert, the bat** insane birther from Texas, was seen going in to see Boehner and muttering about being "called to the principal's office."

The conclusion of the rightie (Stephen Hayes from Weekly Standard, I think) is that if Boehner is having to resort to trying to convince Gohmert to vote for his plan, it's in very, very big trouble.

House Democrats to vote for his bill.  And if his bill doesn't pass the House, Boehner would not allow any compromise bill to be voted upon in the House.  Obama can then say for the sake of bipartisanship he would order Democrats to vote for Boehner's bill because defaulting on the federal debt would have horrible consequences.

And, what will be the first revelation of what the key freshmen who support the Speaker will get for that support. (IMO, its a "why not him...I'll be primaried if I support you" countered by "you won the volunteer spot...and here is the offer you can't refuse.)

Meanwhile, sly fox Harry Reid waits to squash the whole thing when it gets to the Senate (and, he must be confident because he is already brandishing the numbers.) So, whatever Boehner pulls off, he is undercut by the publicized struggle & the the almost simultaneous Senate squash.
