Home Alone?

Not sure what this is supposed to mean - Boehner Says GOP Prepared to Act Alone on Debt Deal. How can the GOP act alone? At the least, Harry Reid has to do something and so does President Obama. Boehner says "“I and my Republican colleagues in the House are prepared to move on our own.” And do what? Pass a clean debt ceilng bill? Obviously no. They already passed Cap, Cut and Something Or Other. Are they gonna repass it?

Not sure what Boehner is talking about.

Speaking for me only

SOME plan out there, not just back room bargaining. Only one I recall was the Cantor plan... and that went nowhere.

Boehner has a tough position vis-a-vis Cantor.Something that we must remember here... he has a plurality of control, not a majority. No, I'm not offering help or a pat on the back, but let's face it.

    some clout.

The only actual "plan" I can think of was the one just rejected by the Demos that the Repubs had put forward.

What I really object to is this "default" stuff. I think our debt service is around 10% of our revenue so no way does that mean we can't pay our bills.

What it does mean is that since we are borrowing 42 cents for every dollar spent we will have to decide what stays and what goes if we stop borrowing.

As for S&P and Moody, I wonder who owns them? If it's the people make money loaning us money their bias is obvious... Plus, they did a terrible job in the mortgage mess,

Budget? different story. what we need is more income. More people working, more taxes being paid. But we need this from the community, the state, and the national levels.

the GOP will lend the Treasury all the money it needs to go on spending, and not ask for any securities in return. They could do that without the Prez or Harry Reid.

of the debt ceiling, with an accompanying portion of spending cuts. Which the Senate and Obama can then take or leave, and we can either default or do this again in 5 months.

This is how the self-procalimed greatest nation on earth operates. Unbelievable.

Is it true that nothing can pass both Houses? I find it hard to believe that a clean bill would not pass if tried.

Why not start there and work on the budget throughout he normal channels? Or is that just too logical?

Let's try it. Oh yeah, Boehner won't bring it up to a vote.  Not that I'm pointing fingers or anything.

2010 election in 2011.  He said something like "I'm glad the Republicans control Congress now."  My first thought was: Well, duh, the Republicans don't even control the Senate so how can they control Congress?

But this is something Obama and the Democrats could use to their advantage.  Obama should just something something like "Now that the Republicans control Congress..." over and over again and pretty soon a lot of (dumb) people will believe it.  This makes it sound like Obama and the Democrats are helpless because the Republicans control Congress and nothing that happens in Congress was caused by them.

Boehner and Cantor said that they would bring you jobs. Not only have they not brought you jobs, they are on the brink of stopping your SS checks, increasing your interest rates for home, car and student loans and want to curtail your SS, Medicare, Medicaid.
What have the do-nothing Republicans done since they got elected? They have done nothing but collected their salaries.
Now they want America to run like a banana republic!
Throw the Republican bums out in 2012. Throw the Tea Party bums out in 2012!

and Dan the Man's suggestion for the prefix to every Dem statement on this is a good one.

Motivating the voters to just fall for the lies of the other party, too, is not going to get us to a jobs bill and much more that is needed.

Throw out all of the bums -- or, better yet, make some of the bums live up to their promises, their party principles, their party platform, as at least those still are ways to tell which party is which.

    Maybe, Speaker Boehner (none / 0) (#17)

means he is going to seek the advice of Macauley Culkin-- if Culkin can't help him with the economy, perhaps he can help  Boehner with his grammar.

Boehner will offer a smaller ($1 Trillion) extension with the same offsetting cuts.  It will pass the House.

Then the ball is squarely in Obama and Reid's court.  Boehner can justifiably say "We passed a 'Big Deal' option AND we passed a short term option to avoid default and provide more negotiation time.  The Democrat controlled Senate and the President chose to ignore both options without offering anything on their own."

What's Reid to do?  He can't get something ginned up and passed in the Senate.  The WH can't/won't put their plan on paper.  IMHO, the reason the WH won't commit to writing is then the outline to cut SS/M&M becomes the smoking gun that ends their 2012 (and beyond) hopes.
