in the old LA (Lower Alabama), it was regional, but I can't argue that it was a big arrest and big news nationally.

There's a fair amount of isolation to such figures from here in the margins, believe it or not. We know we're affected, but these folks never seem to settle down here when on the run. Guess mosquitoes and humidity are worth something.

I love that movie. I love almost all Mob movies for some reason. I think it was because my mom hid her book The Godfather from us, because of the pictures in the middle of it from the movie. First, it was all she and her sisters could talk about, and then I can't see the book? She had issued a challenge. I spent hours secretly looking for it. When we finally did get a hold of it I had no idea what the photos meant :) The next quest was to figure out what the heck those weird bizarre photos meant.

Only because John Cazale was in it. He was so talented and gone far too soon. I made a point of seeing every movie he was in. I love the Godfather series. I love Reservoir Dogs, I loved the Sopranos, I love Good Fellas, Donnie Brasco, Casino, I just love Mob movies and I blame it on my mom :)

a mere pup. I was in college when the novel The Godfather came out, and already graduated from college and working when the first film came out. (Geez, I'm getting old.) I saw all three of the films when they first appeared, having read the novel as soon as it was available in paperback. (Part III pretty much sucked.)

The mailboxes are in the front entrance of my building. Yesterday, when I went to get my mail and saw the name you gave me, I let out a rather sharp and noisy guffaw, causing one of my neighbors to look at me somewhat askance out of the corner of his eye.

I knew he wouldn't understand, so I just smiled and went on my way.

In six months I turn 60. A name change might be just the thing to mark that milestone. Admiral Casey Swashbuckle has a nice ring to it, don't you think? Could make me the talk of senior housing some day.

talk about when our final day in Iraq will be. My husband wants to do one more Afghanistan tour before he is out. He told me this when he got back last year. He does this because he knows I have a hard time dealing with certain realities so he will need all the time he can squeeze in allowing me to deal with it and make my peace with it.
We watched the announcement of the 2012 drawdown and I started laughing. I told him that he had 1.5 years to get that last tour in and he told me that that was exactly what he was thinking. But the 2012 drawdown is subject change, they always reserve that right. I think Obama has covered all of his bases on this one thing. Why do this one thing so well and fail at everything else? I wish I knew.
When we leave Afghanistan we will have a robust CIA operation there on the ground. Our killing Osama kills the legend, his magic protection that it seemed like he had and the notion that he was doing God's will has been dealt with. God's will matters a lot to the people of that region. When Pakistan was flooding so badly my husband said that because the devastation would not stop that the people would equate it with making God angry and they would begin to wonder what they had done. He said that it could work against Al Qaeda because all the regions being flooded were regions that they run around in. Sure enough, two weeks after my husband said that Osama issued the statement that the floods were due to global warming. The magic warrior for one moment publicly embraced science because he could not afford any magical thinking at that time, it was starting to tarnish his image.
I'm fine drawing down. It all seems very appropriate.

that you were correct that DADT hasn't been implemented yet. I'm used to training being followed up immediately with implementation but I asked more questions and was told that because this is huge policy change across the board they will have these trainings. Then they will address issues and conflicts that arise during the training sessions. After everyone has been through training, a date of implementation will be issued.

well I hope it is implemented before Nov 2012. Make some of the GOP who want to reinstate it look like @holes for not supporting the troops.

The repeal of DADT really does excite me and make me happy for the future. Is someone really going to call someone who is serving their country a f*g? I think it will have a positive affect on a lot of lives in the military and outside the military as well.

to do with DADT but....I live a mile from Kings Bay. Something funky goin on there. They called in the Marines to guard something very secret. Makes me nervous besides all the fires surrounding us, we have been on Red Alert for months now. The smoke has been so thick that the sun is pink and the moon is orange. Wish I had a decent camera.

I think I am ready to move back to Fla, even with Rick Scott as the Governor.

Note to Mets players...if you get injured, rob a bank for a dollar to get better medical care...they botched up Ike Davis this time. Unreal. And on the poker beat...A buncha celebrity high stakes players are being sued for beating a donk grifter out of a chuck a change, and the gamblers who gambled on the grifter want their money back. Does anybody here know how to gamble, and the gamblers code, besides Spiderman?

The plaintiffs need to stick to square games instead of crying when they lose a gamble on a grifter. They're doing the poker players dirty here, imo...no shame, no shame.

Much more likely, the grifter was a degenerate gambler, and a lousy one at that, and his ponzi scheme was funding the leaks in his game, as well as a bloated lifestyle he didn't have the talent or work ethic to earn.

I only know the unwritten gamblers code...I can't see how the players can be held liable for how a fellow player got his money to put on the table....they did nothing wrong.

But the law is kinda funny that way, who knows. They might be in trouble for breaking Cali's tyrannical gaming laws but that should be all...they earned that cash.

sue the people (including the owner of the New York Mets) who had gotten their profits out before the whole Madoff thing blew up? I think the theory there was that the money they gained was "fictitious profits" from the Madoff Ponzi scheme. So maybe poker winnings are "fictitious profits" in this case. Who knows? I don't pretend to know anything about Ponzi schemes, or bankruptcy.

Mets owner Fred Wilpon invested heavily with Madoff, and is being sued for the principle and any profits over the years. A suit for the profits has merit, going after the principle is unjust, imo...though selfishly I'd love to see Wilpon lose and be forced to sell...we need new ownership! :)

Apples and oranges to this suit...the poker players were not invested in the scheme afaik, did not profit off investments in the scheme...they were just playing cards and profiting on playing cards...honest profits on an honest gamble.

Can't tell ya if the law agrees, and jives with common sense...we shall see.

Time to live vicariously. They write:

After trekking in Nepal we had plans to fly to Thailand since we were registered to run their famous 14k race in Bangkok on June 19.
Even though we had been running throughout the trip in India and Nepal we were very unprepared for the high humidity of Thailand. We had forgotten how much the humidity can affect the climate and make a day that much hotter. Luckily, we ran for a few days in Lumpini Park, the central city park and got a good feel for the stress of the climate change.
The race started at 6 a.m. and we got up at 3 a.m. and searched the very "active" city streets for a taxi to take us to the race.
Close to 1000 runners were there. I am so happy to say that after 1 hour and 11 minutes of running I came in the 4th women overall and received 2nd place in my age group. (LINK)

Surprised she didn't win, that's how screwy they are. I have a feeling they'll never get back to the U.S. again.

All day the media has been going crazy because Cindy & George Anthony think Casey is guilty.
So her testimony today about the chloroform and the carpet in the car. the media view: she trying to save Casey. In other words she's lying.
The media have not talked about the carpet in the car.

But biggest event was the lead fbi agent in charge of the case. The video is not available yet. This was not in front of the jury. The prosecutor wanted a proffer of what the next two witness were going to say.
The lead FBI investigator suggested tampering with evidence and it leads to the prosecutor office. The evidence was photos of the duct tape. He wanted to manipulate the photos. The defense has the E-mail!!! Agent testimony was impeach by another agent.

The judge did not allow it. The E-mail was read in open court.
