World's Oldest Prison Inmate Released: Age 108

India has released the world's oldest prison inmate, Brij Bihari Pandey, a Hindu Priest who began serving a life sentence for murder at 84.

He is now 108. He can't walk so his relatives carried him from the prison. But he had a broad smile, and hugged his fellow inmates goodbye, as he was presented with a wreath. He said,

God is great. Thank you."

India said his medical care was becoming too costly, so they freed him on humanitarian grounds. What a great Fathers Day gift for his children and grandchildren.

with his release, economic reasons did. if he was younger and in better health, they wouldn't have let him out. this will happen in the US, as our prison population ages, and becomes a much more significant financial burden to the system.

It does bother me a little bit that a murder of 4 people is allowed out of prison, for whatever reason.

Sorry, for commiting 4 murders, I would want his prison to be 4 walls.
And his mind is a lot more free out of prison then in. He is still a danger even with his body as sick as it is.

    You must be joking.

The danger is living in a world without compassion.

There are cases where old people, even the ones who are old and sick, who are danger to society. Heck, there are people in prison who are old who are still a danger to society. And this man murdered 4 people demonstrating he has no problems in killing people. And I am sorry, a murder does not deserve compassion.

he might be a danger to a 110 year old with dead arms and dead legs...point taken.

Not to confuse this with a compassionate release or anything...it's an economic release so he can go die without the state spending anymore money on him.  But if it was me I'd rather die free without healthcare than caged with care.

He can plan a murder and have someone carry it out for him
According to the article, the murders were commited with his family. Hence, he can still be a major danger.

(And a man who murders 4 people should never be released for either compassionate or economic reasons.)
