Bradley Manning Hearing Wraps Up

The Guardian and CNN have good recaps of Bradley Manning's hearing this week.

David Coombs, Manning's lead defense counsel, seemed for focus on two major issues - the Army's lack of response to Manning's emotional and behavior problems as well lack of security in the SCIF where Manning worked in Iraq.

The judge/hearing officer is to make his recommendation to the special Court Martial Convening Authority. by Jan. 16 as to whether Manning should face a full courts-martial proceeding. If convicted of the charges, Manning faces a potential life sentence.

relevant to the charges, and fail to negate the actual question of whether or not manning stole/disseminated classified data.

really, if that's the best they could come up with, in terms of a viable defense, they might as well just go ahead and measure manning for a set of prison stripes right now.

they might be mitigating circumstances, for sentencing purposes, but if the army can prove its case, he'll still be spending all his spare time in leavenworth.

It doesn't look good for Bradley Manning. (none / 0) (#2)

Unfortunately, I see a courts martial in his future.  The deck has been stacked against him, although they did, at least, give him some clothes so that he did not have to appear at the hearing naked.
