Romney Stands Up For Wall Street

Romney attacks Occupy Wall Street as "class warfare":

Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney on Tuesday compared the current anti-Wall Street protests to “class warfare.” “I think it’s dangerous, this class warfare,” Romney said to an audience of about 50 people in response to a question about the protests over such issues as high unemployment, home foreclosures and the 2008 corporate bailouts.

Given Romney's own income stream, he seems to be standing up for his own wealth as well:

Citizens for Tax Justice, a progressive-leaning group, estimated Romney’s 2010 tax rate at 14%, based on public records of his income.

Running against Wall Street and the filthy rich is a political winner in case anyone is wondering. Yep, the "class warfare" thing.

More proof that OWS is working: (5.00 / 3) (#1)

it's making very rich people like Romney uncomfortable.

Can't decide, though, if it's a dumb knee-jerk move, or one that's designed to force Obama to say something that puts him on the side of the DFH's.

I'm inclined to think Obama will find a more adult way to more or less agree with him, making it a dumb move countered by a dumb move and hurting them both.

    Agreed. (none / 0) (#8)

And, for Romney, it is likely an innate reaction for reasons of both personal finances and religious beliefs--God wants you to be rich.   And while effortless, being manservant to Wall Street titans is a part of his job.

... just mention the class warfare that's been going on for 30 years.  All that wealth going up is so easily provable.  But that would take a D with some sense and some grit.

The whole lot is well off, but very few I would call rich.

But there was a time when D's voted against their own self interest for the good of the nation.

I'm all for tax increases, even on my own income if it means making life easier for the poor.

But Obama won't. He'll need a job after November 2012. He's not about to start criticizing wall street too much...

...I would think the republicans are trying to toss this one.

Why is class warfare a one way street, when they make billions off the sweat of us surfs it's sound business, when we want a little back, it's practically treasonous.

At least Obama has enough sense to not publicly acknowledge what Mittens has.

dangerous for you and your portfolio.  For those who you supposedly want to serve (lol), it is a natural response to the real danger we face.

Inspiring scene today on the "class war" front...Zuccotti was jammed, could barely walk through the park.  I kept hearing Chief Brody in my head..."I think we need a bigger park."

Drum circle, guitars, and protest songs.  Lots of discussion in the crowd...the massive task at hand, brainstorming possible solutions, lively open debate.  Talk of Tunisia and Egypt and Greece and "why not us?".  Peaceful eclectic group...not all DFHs, hardhats and clean cuts and religous folk too.  All ages. A free library, free food, free copies of "The Occupied Wall St. Journal". Lots of clever signage.  Cops on the perimeter every 10 paces, behaving themselves today, amused and gawking with the Brooks Brothers crew and the tourists. Cameras and media prevalent.  Couldn't stay for much of the march or the evening General Assembly, but I'll be back.

The Exchange is locked down like a penitentiary, damn! Barricades and cops up the wazoo, you can't walk past the front door.  I don't if that is quasi-normal post 9/11, but I smelled fear, and for once it wasn't our fear. Good sh*t people.

All Day, All Week. Occupy Wall Street.

Anonymous announced the other day attacks set forth to take place October 10th to take down NYSE.com.

What anonymous is doing in this youtube video is inviting anyone who wants to participate in the attacks to install LOIC (Low Orbit Ion Cannon) on their computers to make their machines part of a widespread network that will launch DDOS (distributed denial of service) attacks to overwhelm NYSE.com with garbage requests to crash their servers.

But at the same time they are warning NYSE that they will be using OTHER unnamed attack methods at the same time as the DDOS attack takes place.

NYSE has no defense against this other than to shut down the site themselves.

LOL. Anonymous has effectively set up NYSE so that they will have to participate in the attacks on their own site.

LOIC (Low Orbit Ion Cannon) is an application developed by 4Chan-affiliated hackers designed to-when used en masse by thousands of anonymous users-launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on websites.

The idea behind LOIC is that it can allow you to participate in attacks even if you've no clue how to hack. Just download a copy of LOIC (available for Windows, Mac, and Linux!), punch in the target information like a URL or an IP address and zap.

I was there yesterday, it was a beautiful thing, with such a diverse group.  Cabbies were honking their support as we marched.  Punch the hippies yet again.

woke up this morning to learn it got nasty after I left the occupation zone yesterday evening.

The NYSE has a right to lock their front door, but they don't own the actual Wall St., last I checked that was public property...if the protestors did in fact attempt to pass the barricades, they were within their rights.

PS...We lost the big game, we'll get them next year.  Blew a 4 run lead in the bottom of the
7th:(  Was so inspired by the OWS scene it didn't sting too badly though:)

it does sure feel and look like the NYPD is a private security force down there, and not a police force "protecting and serving" the entire community.

Sh*t if they were a "protect and serve" police force there would be crime scene tape around the NYSE, not barricades to keep citizens away.

I found this tidbit chock full of irony...the only reason the OWS community hasn't been beaten and gassed out of Zuccotti Park is Zuccotti Park is a privately owned publicly accessible park, the city don't own it, some outfit named Brookfield Properties does.  If it was a city park, bet your arse there would be bloodstains in place of happy campers.

Bloomberg is probably already looking into emminent domaining that small patch of land:)
