Sunday Night Open Thread

We have post after post on the Arizona shootings this weekend. Does anyone have anything else to talk about?

If you're watching TV, check out the premiere of Shameless on Showtime. (Free this weekend to Comcast subscribers -- even those who don't pay for Showtime.) It's really good.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

    Three - six inches of snow (5.00 / 1) (#24)
by jeffinalabama on Mon Jan 10, 2011 at 08:22:29 AM EST
here in Alabama... Icy snow, may snow more all day. My dog loves it. I'm making blueberry pancakes, potato beans and chorizo tortillas, a lima bean soup, arepas and hogau, and I might just make some biscuits with chicken gravy and/or bacon.

That's just breakfast, before playing again in the snow!

Dog runs, jumps, plays, then decides it's time to jump in the warm bed for 20 minutes. Then repeat!

    We only got icy roads (5.00 / 1) (#30)

It was cold though last night so we ate spicy Jambalya with chili beans on the side.  Gotta take advantage of that cold weather food when I can because we don't get much call for it.

It was okay, not terrific though in my book.  Waiting for the ice storm to hit around 2:00 am.  Looks like it won't be missing us, school is cancelled for tomorrow as well.  I really liked Black Swan.

    I watched Salt (none / 0) (#3)

last night and agree, it was mediocre at best. I was pretty disappointed. And so many of the action scenes were not believable. Either was the plot, come to think of it.

Salt was fun in the theater.  Then again, I tend to enjoy all of Angelina's action flicks.  Definitely her strong suit, IMO.

She really looked like a dancer IMO.  The cords of her neck were impressive as hell in a few of the scenes and her back muscles too when she was fluttering as a swan.  She was like a little bar of iron.

We had to drive all the way to Dothan to see it though.  The theater owner in Enterprise wouldn't show it.  I'm guessing it was because of one lesbian scene that was very believable but not graphic in any obscene way.  An orga$m was involved though between two girls and that is just too much for Enterprise I guess.  Now if it were two girls and a guy....that show would have played here just fine :)  Sometimes this place is just a little too trippy strange for me.  Maybe it wasn't the one girl scene though, maybe it was the portrayal what a doting controlling mom shoved up your backside can do to your developing personality that made it unshowable here :)

Sometimes a movie is too real.  And I'm not talking about the action scenes.

I see people's faces in those characters.  Teenagers who might have grown into those adults.

Patrick Swayze's Point Break out of my mind cause of the masks. It was good, but I thought Mystic River (like The Town, a Boston movie) was better. I watched The Town twice because my attention kept wandering the first time. But it's getting great accolades, so I can understand that you liked it a lot.

Winter's Bone, as others have mentioned in comments to other posts, is one fo the few movies that kept me riveted the past few months.

so maybe that helped.  Also never seen Mystic River.  Honestly... I have a hard time with a lot of the "Boston" movies because they are hard to watch.  I figured the Town would be okay for pure entertainment value.  But even that was kind of hard.

I though Jon Hamm as the FBI guy was - what every Townie thinks of the FBI.  He made it impossible to root for him, which was obviously the point, but I wasn't sure they'd be able to pull it off.  He did.

You got your wish to face Gang Green...lets get it on!

If nothing else our defense has settled in after the big loss of Jim Leonard to injury the Friday before our last meeting...I don't know if we can beat the mighty Pats in their house, but I'm confident it won't be another 45-3.

Sanchez needs to step it up...not sure if the shoulder is bothering him but he was erratic and inaccurate during the wild card game...thank goodness the running game, defense, and special teams were on point.

Oh I have no doubt this will be (none / 0) (#31)
by CST on Mon Jan 10, 2011 at 09:21:22 AM EST
a real game.  There's too much at stake for a blowout between two solid teams.  But I'm confident that our boys will pull it off.  Brady/Belicheck always do well with a bye week.  Not to mention home field advantage, and of course the fact that they are the better team :)

But there's no room for error, so anything can happen.

Two divisional rivalries in the playoffs is hard to beat though.  I'm pretty excited about Ravens/Steelers too.  I'll be rooting for the Steelers because a) I think the Pats match up better against them, and b) the Steelers are my second favorite team (although if they ever beat the patriots in the playoffs that might change)
