Move On Makes Feingold Race Top Priority

Good on Move On:

There's no better, more principled Democrat in Washington than Sen. Feingold: The only senator to vote against the PATRIOT Act. A steadfast opponent of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And a passionate crusader against corporate influence in politics. Right now he is down in the polls and in real danger of losing his seat. Can you chip in?

If you don't want to contribute through Move On, give directly to Russ here.

    Still haven't found any Wisconsin Republicans (5.00 / 1) (#11)

willing to wager serious money on this race, even spotting them a 100,000 vote point spread.

I noted the new "Wisconsin Voter" blog (none / 0) (#1)

in an earlier comment a couple of days ago, but amid many comments there.  So I hope that the duplication is okay:

For those interested in oddities of Wisconsin voting, election schedule, etc. -- the topics of the last two days' posts, including on the recent history of younger voters in midterms in Wisconsin, where they can be a larger factor than elsewhere --  and how these local variables factor into analysis by the top political reporter at the major newspaper in Wisconsin, here's the blog.

This may be especially useful on election day to recall when trying to figure out what happened. . . .  So many variables differ in Wisconsin and will do so right up to the time that polls close, with same-day voter registration here, for example.  (And I am watching for a repeat of problems in opening polls on time in the primary here, especially a polling place on a campus. . . .)

'Just read an article about Dems' early voter strategy--emphasizing banking early votes (particularly on campuses)--and how the approach can serve as a useful buffer in difficult situations.  How does that work in Wisconsin? Are you seeing emphasis on "banking votes for Feingold" or something like that?

From what I've seen in fairly liberal Shorewood (just north of the UW-Milwaukee campus where many students vote) early voting is discouraged.

I lived in Seattle, WA from 1998 to 2003 where I learned about the early voting option. My partner and I always got our ballots in the mail, returned them a week or two ahead of election day, and that was that.

Wisconsin provides for something called permanent absentee voting (effectively the same as vote-by-mail in Washington and other states), but it isn't promoted by either party. All eligible voters in the state are permitted to do it. When we went to the village hall here, the clerk gave us the forms to register for permanent absentee voting, but it's clear we're part of a very small minority that take advantage of it.

Republicans in Wisconsin hate the idea of vote-by-mail. It would end their ongoing campaign to suppress voting by Democrats. Wisconsin should adopt Oregon's model of nothing-but vote-by-mail. It would increase participation and remove concerns about fraud. I've been back in the state for six years or so, and I haven't figured out why, with a Democratic governor and, over the past few years at least, a Democratic legislature as well, we haven't got that done yet.

gotten done under a Dem governor and Dem legislature -- and so much awful that has been done -- because of too many Dem pols' fixation on the Milwaukee-Madison split that it just makes me sick.

is not easy in Wisconsin, with the late primary -- if you mean absentee ballots?  Sorry; unclear.

I'm trying to find someone to take on ensuring timely delivery of absentee ballots to non-felon inmates.

In '04, the City Clerk shipped them the last legal day, which would have been okay had not your fake D Sheriff impounded the forms until it was too late to mail them.

any more than Kohl is your fault.

The aftereffects of the pension scandal in the county that Dems let happen are still being seen in all of those Republican sorts in office, whether or not they admit that's what they are.

A high profile endorsement from moveon.org is supposed to help Feingold with Independent voters?
