Dodd Ending Career In Ignominy

Chris Dodd has apparently decided to end his career as a poster boy for everything that is wrong with the Senate and Democrats. When he was running for President, he acted the progressive champion, but of course it was an act. Pols are pols and all. But it is amazing to see how he has chosen to end his tenure, with one embarrassing statement after another. Matt Yglesias on Dodd's latest:

We’ve got a limited amount of time here, I don’t know if there’s going to be any appetite to deal with these Fed nominees,” Dodd said.

I think I’ve shouted myself hoarse about the importance of these nominees already, but just to underscore it the Federal Reserve controls the economy. [. . .] Meanwhile, on the “limited amount of time” note how insane the Senate is. A sane legislative body could easily vote on three nominees in twenty minutes if it’s in a rush. If the Senate wants to take more time to actually debate, that would be nice too. But these nominees have been on the table since April and nobody seems to have anything to say about them. So just vote!

Chris Dodd is a disgrace. Good riddance to him.

that Elizabeth's Warren permanent confirmation as CFBP chief would mean that the CFBP would not be funded.  So he's saying, I take it, put in someone not widely recognized as a consumer advociate, and they'll get funding not to be a consumer advocate.  Great.

President Obama plans to tap Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren to a special advisory role so she can help stand up a new consumer financial protection bureau while avoiding a potentially vicious Senate confirmation fight, according to a senior administration official with knowledge of the decision.....

...By appointing Warren to a post within the administration - much as the White House did with the "car czar" Steven Rattner and "compensation czar" Kenneth Feinberg - Obama would free her to act as the bureau's director almost immediately while avoiding a confirmation battle..

Senate Banking Committee Chairman [and WATB] Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), who shepherded the landmark financial legislation through the upper chamber, told reporters this week that such a move could jeopardize the credibility of the fledgling consumer bureau and that it would be "met with a lot of opposition.".

is there anyone in the US Senate and all of DC doing more to float reasons why Elizabeth Warren should not be appointed Director of the new CFPA?

He's just waiting for one of his inane reasons to gain traction.   My only question is whether he is doing with or without WH support?
