It's a beautiful day here, I'm headed out to enjoy it. I hope to be back for the "white carpet" at the MTV Video Music Awards.

    On FTN:

    "If the only option I have is to vote for some of those tax reductions, I'll vote for them," Mr. Boehner said, in response to questioning by the television show's host, Bob Schieffer, who pointedly asked if Republicans were willing to hold the tax breaks for most Americans "hostage" to insist on continuing the lower rates for the highest earners.

    See, that "hostage" framing was good.

    Using the Repug-friendly/CW model -- ie, picking the most outrageous, even nonexistent character fabricated by themselves, to equal ALL Dems and forcing leadership to "answer" for it -- then this dude would typify the average or moderate Repug.

    Whew!  Josh and dad were watching that recent documentary on America today.  They ran all the episodes back to back for hours, and when it got to the Civil War my husband began to explain to Joshua that war is the step after nonviolent politics fails.  War is when we begin negotiating with violence.  This guy, where politics is concerned he can obviously get right up to that line between violent politics and nonviolent politics :)  He is even able to get right up to that line campaigning.

    We got a phone call from (none / 0) (#11)

    GameStop tonight.  Halo: Reach was supposed to be available at midnight, if one of us was having trouble sleeping we probably would have gone to get it for Joshua tonight.  According to the phone call though Halo: Reach will not be avaiable for pick up at least from this GameStop until tomorrow at midnight.  Joshua is very upset, he now has to wait 24 hours longer he says.  Then his dad says, "Just think Joshua, people who don't have to go to school or have a real life will get it at midnight tomorrow and have already beaten it by the time you get out of school on Tuesday and can play it for the first time."  And then Joshua starts trying to beat up his own father.

    episodes of the new Inspector Lewis series. No spoilers from me, but I will say, they do not disappoint.

    I love how in the British crime series' the police do not have guns; there are no big chase scenes; and the arrest is always so civil on everyone's part. "I say, you seem to have got me, Inspector," seems to be the general tone.

    It really was just what I needed last night.

    Lewis and Hathaway are so well matched, and I love what they are doing with the medical examiner, coming up with new hidden talents for her every show. And the reference to Morse's Wagner at the very end was a nice touch.
