    Breaking Bad finale ... (5.00 / 2) (#11)
by Yman on Mon Jun 14, 2010 at 09:33:21 AM EST
... was pretty incredible (in the good sense of the word).  It's going to make the wait to next season seem awfully long.

    Really (5.00 / 1) (#13)

Not to mention, Jon Stewart the other night said Fortune mag had named her one of the 10 worst CEOs in the history of the universe or something like that.  Why isn't her abysmal record of nearly driving HP into the ground and then flying off with a $20 million golden parachute getting more attention?

    Nobody's paying attention right now (none / 0) (#15)

except political junkies.  This stuff will make it into commercials come September and October.

I don't know - if other media avenues don't make this known, then I'd say the Dems will deserve the beating they'll get and the rest of us will have to live with their idiocy (again).

    End of the constitution (5.00 / 1) (#19)
by mcl on Mon Jun 14, 2010 at 08:33:36 PM EST
The supreme court just denied cert for Maher Arar, the innocent guy whom the U.S. kidnapped and sent overseas to be tortured for 10 months.

This cements the legal framework legalizing torture. At this point, you have to wonder why we even have a constitution?

Why not just take the original document out of its glass case and burn it?  It obviously no longer means anything.

It's one thing for the musical to get some attention.  But a two-song concert to open the show?  Wow.  That was rather unexpected.

    Mineral Fueled War (none / 0) (#2)
by squeaky on Sun Jun 13, 2010 at 10:46:25 PM EST
WASHINGTON -- The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.
The previously unknown deposits -- including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium -- are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, the United States officials believe.

An internal Pentagon memo, for example, states that Afghanistan could become the "Saudi Arabia of lithium," a key raw material in the manufacture of batteries for laptops and Blackberries.

The immense mineral reserves in Afghanistan have been known for quite some time.  Do some research on the contracts the Chinese have already signed to lock up effectively most of the copper.

    Convenient timing (none / 0) (#12)
by waldenpond on Mon Jun 14, 2010 at 09:56:54 AM EST
Well, isn't this convenient.... several stories about how poorly Afghanistan is going, the need to stay even longer, no support for the latest offensive, let's go ahead with the Kandahar offensive..... oh look, goodies!  See, we do have a 'reason' for staying.

I wonder who chose to push the war justification at this time.

Sliders is on Netflix (none / 0) (#3)

I haven't watched an episode in many years, and it feels dated. But I remember why I loved it in the first place.

    odd facts (none / 0) (#4)
by pac on Sun Jun 13, 2010 at 11:40:49 PM EST
Note, how long had it been since Joran had the 15 or so mentioned drinks of whiskey?  He must have been real drunk? or just typical? And then there were the mention of pills in previous stories. How can he remember what happened?

Joran claims Stepany hit him in the side of the head so he gives her an elbow punch and although she is faint looking he strangles her?

So far no stories about other females involved with Joran reported violence. Natalee is missing and Stephany is dead and no other reports of violence to females?  Joran has been pictured with many females.

Has it been determined who sent Joran the message about killing him due to the Holloway case? That message supposedly brought forth the confrontation with Stephany? That is an interesting circumstance. At what hour of the morning? another coincidence?  something that can be checked?  Did someone actually send the message?

    Breaking Bad (none / 0) (#9)

I've gone the whole season and only seen one BB episode. But then, I enjoy downloading them all and watching them all in a row!

Speaking of Netflix...I just started watching Dexter. Pretty interesting stuff.

Lamar Odom buying popcorn at the movie theater Friday night.  I wonder what it feels like to have a bunch of excited 13 year old girls who want to meet "Mr. Kardashian".

    He should've been practicing.
