Sunday Night TV and Open Thread

Why do they overload Sunday nights with so many watchable programs?

There's a new Pacific, Nurse Jackie Celebrity Apprentice, Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. My favorite which I'm saving for last will be AMC's "Breaking Bad" when we find out what happened to Walt's brother-in-law Hank, the DEA agent who took a ton of bullets in a parking lot last week, right after he got fired for beating up meth cook Jesse and turned in his badge.

I hope you all enjoyed Mother's Day. I did -- "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was really good, and if you read the book, you won't be disappointed.

It looks like Elena Kagen may be nominated for the Supreme Court tomorrow. At least she's not a former prosecutor. After John Roberts and Sam Alito, it's time for a change from that pattern.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

Then they show several new Agatha Christie mysteries including Murder on the Orient Express with David Suchet. And then Inspector Lewis to finish it off.

did previously hold positions in the White House and the Department of Justice, but (unlike Justice Alito) he was never a prosecutor.  He didn't even handle criminal cases when he was Principal Deputy Solicitor General.  Kagan's prior government service is not too different, really (identity of administration aside).  I hope this pre-leak is a head-fake, though.  Holding out for Judge Wood.

    Chuck Todd:

NBC's Pete Williams: Elena Kagan is the POTUS' pick to replace Justice Stevens, making her 4th woman ever on high court.

    Fait Accompli.

Personally, I'm pleased. But I hear the concerns of those who aren't convinced.

the Sunday night airing is the third(?) time it repeats from the previous Monday. So you should watch it/Tivo it on Monday and then you don't have to cram it into an already packed night.

    I'm watching The Tudors.

If you are going to fill five minutes with a song bashing Bush, it better be a better one than that, given all the other great music to choose from.

I wish they would stick with the good dramatic stories and characters and spend less time on the politics. that from ME, the political junkie. I know you can't separate the politcis from what is goi g on, but it seems like a heavy-handed treatment to me.

at keast savvt as to crominal law and procedure.  Not so as to civil law and procedure.  And often former prosecutors surprise their former colleagues by turning out to be more criminal defense oriented than anticipated.

No pleasant surprises there at all, I'm sorry to say.  At least not so far.  We still have 25 years to go, I guess, to see how things eventually play out.

I enjoyed Mothers Day as well.

Talked on the phone with my 75 year old Mom for well over 1/2 an hour. (there are 4 of us)

And my 48 year old wife and Mother of my two kids and I had a great time eating, and planting stuff, and enjoying the weather in the Midwest.

celtics/cavs - greater of course because the celts won.  But man, two huge nights from Rondo and Tony Allen who came off the bench to completely change the direction of the game.

I don't know if we'll win the series, but if we lost that game there was no chance.  Now at least we're still in it.  And if the Celtics have a future post-big-three, it will be because of Rondo.

Rondo was a beast with that triple-double.  The rebounding stat was what jumped out at me.

one of the three against the dreaded yanks.  I'm actually going to a sox game on wednesday but on the other side of town - there's playoff's going on!  It's hard to focus on a new season when you're highly invested in the previous ones still.  Especially when you don't really want to look too hard because of what you'll see.

Rondo was a beast.  He had as many rebounds as K.G. and Ray Allen did points - the two highest scorers for the Celts after Rondo.

...not to be too invested in the Nuggets, which turned out to be a good thing.  Not enough quality depth or any significant front-line size.  I have a feeling they're going to blow-up the team this off-season.

The Av's, on the other hand, were a pleasant surprise.

I've got a Sunday afternoon Rockies game coming up soon.  Just hoping it will be a nice day and not snowing!
