Thursday Night Open Thread

For some reason, the comments got really ugly here today. I've read and cleaned two threads, but am turning my attention now to other things...like Survivor and Nurse Jackie. Please stop attacking each other.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

Given Jeralyn's comments, I feel like Horatio, making my entrance during the last part of the last act, after Laertes, Claudius, Gertrude and Hamlet are dead.

    And the rest is silence...

I missed all the excitement.  Last time I checked in, it was a very, very sleepy day with few comments.

Well, Elway isn't going to have competition in the car sales market from Tebow.  But Focus on the Family gains a spokesperson.

first the Rockies go christian-crazy, now the Broncos draft Baby Jesus 3 rounds too soon...thats gonna set the franchise back.

I'm so glad the Jets prefer degenerates...with the addition of Santonio Holmes, Big Sean Ellis has somebody new to blaze with...Gang Green, literally:)

Great example of how the NFL is more of a business than a sport. He'll be successful there even if he never takes a snap.

by Makarov on Thu Apr 22, 2010 at 10:12:17 PM EST
The Broncos spent more for Tebow (2nd, 3rd, and 4th) than the Redskins did on Donovan McNabb (2nd and conditional 4th in 2011).

That's pretty....hilarious I think. Cutler for Orten last year. Marshall gone for a late pick this year. And...Tim Tebow?

But hey, whatever they think they need to do to win the worst division in football (AFC West).

to have to go back to rooting against the Broncos again.  The Cowboys, the Broncos, and whichever team Ben Roethlisberger is playing for.

Too bad, but I guess he was bound to be drafted somewhere.  And as someone noted, he'll get a friendly welcome from the Focus on the Family crowd and then there are all the possibilities for bible-thumping proselytizing talks downstate in front of the AF cadets, if they still encourage that sort of thing.

Doubt however the very strict NFL will allow him to paint those biblical cites on his eye blacking.  And I wonder how his teammates will react if he tries to play Mr Holier Than Thou Christian Fundamentalist with them.  Apart from the 25% or so of NFLers who think God had something to do with their touchdown or sack, I suspect most players will want to tell the guy to just shut up and play.

So I chaired my first dog show yesterday and muddled through.  Thank God nobody bit anything or anyone, I was getting down to the wire and had only had vehicles parked in fire lanes.  SUCH LUCK!  Right before Best in Show though, I realized that I had not run into our BIS judge all day.  She was to have judged some rare breeds too that didn't garner an entry so she was only judging BIS.  I had never met her in person though and she isn't supposed to watch the judging of groups, so she should have been in the hospitality room....but she wasn't.  I almost fainted.  A long time member of Montgomery Kennel Club found her ringside breaking the rules and then everything was fine, but the talk of the evening became nothing but about how ashen my face can become and how many times I can hug Montgomery Kennel Club members named Frank....sheesh.  So glad to provide the entertainment though.  Wish me luck today, I show against a professional handler that was a TOTAL JERK yesterday and made my blood boil from the sidlines.  He was telling old ladies to get out of his way all day and he wasn't using his indoor voice.  I came home and groomed and coached Auburn for about four hours before crashing into bed at midnight.  Now I must go and kick his completely rude a$$ or only go down in the history of this cluster as the ashen one.

    Obama #1 (none / 0) (#25)
by squeaky on Fri Apr 23, 2010 at 05:12:44 PM EST
PARIS (AFP) - US President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama are the world's two most popular leaders, according to a poll conducted in six countries and released on Friday.

Obama won 77 percent backing, one percentage point higher than in November, in the poll conducted by Harris Interactive for France24 and Radio France-Internationale.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was at second place at 75 percent, followed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at 62 percent.

Pope Benedict XVI was the seventh most popular leader with 36 percent support

    Interesting.
Billionaire religious despots merit no respect from me. If the people of Tibet want him as their leader, fine, and they certainly should have that choice, but I accord the DL no more respect than I do the younger Reza Pahlavi, deposed ruler of Iran. No bowing towards  "woo--woo" mystics from me.

Obama has probably done more good in 1 year than the DL in 50.

Plenty of people revere JPII also.
I won't list all the reasons that he is horribly vile, but his campaign against condom use, including the totally false slogan "Condoms cause AIDS" used in Africa, puts him in company with Charles Taylor in terms of deaths caused.
JPII was a moral monster ---necessarily, because hew as head of the RCC.

    More Death Threats (none / 0) (#26)
by squeaky on Fri Apr 23, 2010 at 05:55:33 PM EST
I am sure that the signing of a draconian anti immigrant bill, has emboldened these freaks:

U.S. Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva is closing his Tucson and Yuma offices today at noon because of what he said were multiple death threats and threats of violence.

Police are stationed outside his Tucson office, according to a statement from spokesman Adam Sarvana.

Sarvana said the office received "some pretty scary calls," including two from the same person, he said, "who threatened to go down there and blow everyone's brains out then go to the border to shoot Mexicans."

Grijalva staffer Ruben Reyes said the office has been flooded with calls all week about Senate Bill 1070. About 25 percent are "very racist" in nature, Reyes said, characterizing some as "telling that tortilla-eating wetback to go back to Mexico."

Wonder if the police "protecting" Rep Grijalva are asking darker skinned people to see their papers, as now Arizona is an official police state.
