How Popular is Conan O'Brien?

How popular is Conan O'Brien? He posted his first tweet on Twitter a little over an hour ago and already has 43,000 followers. How enlightening was his tweet?

Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.

Over 100 people have re-tweeted it, which isn't that many. Unless they are all people like Ryan Secrest with 3 million followers, who retweeted it right before he tweeted about what he might wear on American Idol tonight.

Does Jay Leno tweet? Maybe he should. (Update: He does.)

I tried, but the more I saw his show, the less impressed I was. I can't tell if it's a generational lack of appreciation, ot whether I'm just not one of the 'cool' kids. It's very odd to me that 45,000 people would want to get a 120 character message from him-- or from anyone else, for that matter!

that's pretty much the schtick..with jokes about how slutty Paris Hilton is..Obviously directed at a certain target audience.

This country is celebrity crazed. If Simon Cowell were twittering he'd probably get 80,000. Meanwhile, half of them couldnt tell you where the British Isles are.

Who picked these people?  Conan has rarely ever been funny.  At least not on his show.  Jimmy Kimmel is a dweeb.  Fallon seems like a nice guy... like his impressions, but not a downright funny guy.  Lettermen never impressed me... the top 10 at 10 never seemed clever enough to me.  Leno is probably the best of the bunch.

Everyone talking about how irreplaceable Conan is... get David Chapelle and people will say Conan who?  His shows were some of the best comedy ever aired on TV.  Not sure how he is as an interviewer, but are any of them great interviewers?

and his sense of humor makes me laugh except when he gets political...I have never gotten Conan at all...It seems to be that Jay gracefully stepped aside when Conan took over but Conon didn't return the favor when his ratings went to hell...Not nice...

It was NBC and Leno who ruined Conan's ratings (none / 0) (#15)

Leno is the problem, not Conan.

NBC put Leno on at 10.00pm, which ruined the ratings for their affiliates' news programs at 11.00pm, and therefore for Conan at 11:30, because half the audience had already switched channels, or switched off altogether, before he came on.

Not surprisingly, the affiliates complained about Leno's terrible ratings, and threatened to drop Leno's show altogether. Obviously, they thought they could find more attractive programming for the 10.00pm slot.

Now NBC thinks they can fix the problem by moving Leno back to 11:30. It won't work, and in the meantime they've screwed over Conan and his younger audience. It's the Dave Letterman situation all over again, and NBC has once again made the wrong decision.

on Facebook. See I'm With COCO. That's 21x Leno, who has only 44,866.

Even NBC's Olympics page has only 122,931 fans!

As for searching, I did, on Twitter. I searched "Jay Leno." It came up empty for anything by him. Probably because his twitter name is "JayLeno."

    Thanks again for the correction.

always got much higher ratings than Conan. Conan is popular with the frat-boy set and nobody much else, whereas Leno is pretty likeable and inoffensive. I just never got Conan's humor, but I'm the first to admit I'm far from hip or young...heh...always been partial to Letterman myself.

Agree with the poster above who said Dave Chapelle is without question one of the funniest people to ever appear on the teebee. But he had some kind of personal and professional breakdown a few years ago and I don't predict he'll be returning to the small screen anytime soon, I think he burned too many bridges.
