Via Atrios and Sadly, No!, WaPo Deputy Editorial Page Editor Jackson Diehl writes:

Tehran's leading agent [in Iraq] is Ahmed Chalabi, a Shiite who in 2002 played a major role in persuading the Bush administration to go to war. Now he has managed to have hundreds of candidates eliminated from the election on the mostly bogus grounds that they were or are loyalists of Saddam Hussein's Baath party. His targets are not just Sunni leaders but secular nationalists -- the two most important banned candidates are leading members of cross-sectarian alliances. The success of those tickets would be a triumph for Iraqi democracy -- and a huge setback for Iran.

Chalabi aims to become prime minister of the next government, which would be a disaster for Iraq and for Washington.

    also telling us, pre-March, 2003, that Chalabi was the Iraqi version of Thomas Jefferson or something?  So much so that we even had "Free Iraqi Forces" (kinda-sorta loyal or subordinate to Chalabi) alongside US forces as they invaded Iraq?  And this was the same Chalabi who, the WaPo (inter alia) has told us, burned us by divulging to the Iranians that our NSA was reading their mail?

    After being such a useless piece of crap and doing all that he did, one could be surprised that Chalabi is still alive to be a problem for the US and the WaPo to worry over.

    from the jar of formaldehyde he shares with Wolfowitz and Christopher Hitchens and get a bit of fresh air on occasion..

    This probably explains him cropping up in the news just now.

    The Washington Compost, especially Jim Hoagland, thought he was the "revealed truth and wisdom" regarding Iraq. It seems as though the Compost is searching for any reason available for us to stay in Iraq, even if it means repudiating their own "golden boy."  You would think that this would cause them to reconsider our original, bogus reasons for invading Iraq in the first place, but I guess not.

    from the Sunday Times, Nov.ll, 2007: Ahmed Chalabi is an indispensable "Mr. Fixit", he pulls Iraq out of darkness--working around bureaucracies and turning the street lamps on. What a guy, although those Iraqi scholars, Michael O'Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack have seemed to have soured on him and turned him in to Biden.

    What do you think about Ron Paul winning the straw poll at CPAC? I think that it shows that even grassroots Republicans are sick of Iraq and like the Obama/Senate Health bill, it has NO constituency outside the beltway.

    I don't know when I've ever seen people inside the beltway (sorry to say it's not just the GOP, it's Dems too) so disconnected from what's going on in the rest of the country.

    In ten years, after we bomb Iran, Chalabi will merge Iran and Iraq and be the Supreme Prime Minister. It will be called Iranac (pronounced Ironic).

    the people that we turned Saddam over to to hang had previosly been nothing more than Iran funded and inspired terrorists.  Saddam didn't do anything nice to them but understand that they didn't anything nice to him or the populace of Iraq either other than blow stuff up in terrorist style attacks.  Prior to WMDs they were on our list of recognized terrorist organizations.  I just want out of there.  There is an awakening in Iran.....so someday that could be a good thing for Iraq too.  But count me as surprised at how God blessed gifted and tenacious Curveball is.  By God he's like a pitbull.  If Cheney could have been that much of a pitbull maybe he'd have the oil....but nope, it'll be Chalabi
