Saturday Night at the Olympics: Open Thread

Apolo Ohno is just about to skate. (Update: He wins silver in 1,500 for 6th Olympic medal)

I've been offline all day, was there any big news?

Dave Cullen, author of the bestselling, Edger-nominated Columbine, provides his take on the female professor accused in the Alabama shooting.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

a woman commits a mass shooting, or turns out to be a serial killer, members of the press invariably talk about how "rare" it is.

It turns out it really isn't that rare. Patricia Pearson wrote a great book about that in the late 90s titled "When She Was Bad". About a year after I read it, HBO announced a documentary airing about Aileen Weirnos, touting her as "the first female serial killer in the US".

guns aren't the problem. Rage is. Guns are the way some people express it.

Knives and baseball bats can kill people too.

the cost of a cable subscription can take some solace in Turner Classic Movies. Especially this month (PDF).

My DVR is getting a workout. It will be even better next year or so when TCM starts getting actual HD masters for broadcast.

With the great TCM lineup (none / 0) (#11)

and the Olympics, which I love, and Project Runway, my DVR is working full time.  Is/Was The Lady Eve is one your DVR list.  Sometimes people don't know about Preston Sturges; but The Lady Eve is one great film.
