Christmas Eve Open Thread

Anyone have a good story to tell? My day ended with an electrical snafu at 5:30 p.m. I thought finding an electrician to make a house call on Christmas Eve would be impossible. I was wrong. Four responded to a request I made through a company called Service Magic I found on the internet, and all were willing to come. I went with the first one, he was here within an hour. He fixed the snafu and also replaced a bunch of high ceiling bulbs.

If you're waiting for Santa, you can track him here, via NORAD.

Merry Christmas everyone, this is an open thread, all topics welcome.

    All three daughters home tonight, (5.00 / 3) (#1)
by Peter G on Fri Dec 24, 2010 at 08:32:57 PM EST
ages 20-28 -- including the one who now lives in Denver. What with Christmas Eve falling on Shabbos, we lit red candles and the (ex-)girls baked homemade challah to eat with the roast beef, green beans, oven-browned potatoes and red wine.  Homemade egg nog tonight while we finish trimming the tree in our half-Catholic, half-Jewish household.  (The daughters say they are "Cashews," which of course also makes them pleasantly nuts.)  The Indigo Girls' excellent holiday album, along with the Christmas Revels, and some seasonal brass is the musical background.  Tomorrow morning, we open presents and listen to Dylan Thomas read "A Child's Christmas in Wales."

heartwarming story. Thanks for posting the link.

I still subscribe to the Wall St. Journal because of criminal justice stories like that they post. Because they aren't always available free, I don't always link to them. Gary Fields in particular does a great job. Some others I liked: Louisiana Inmates Become First Responders; on The Second Chance Act; on the Sentencing Commission's new focus on alternative punishment; Crack Sentences Still Too Tough; and on how guesswork plays too great a role in drug sentencing.

It's a good time to think about what matters most in our lives.

Nobody sees a flower - really - it is so small it takes time - we haven't time - and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time. -  Georgia O'Keefe

so glad your problem got fixed (none / 0) (#3)

and also glad that site worked for you.  I registered there some years ago.  There were not many workers/technicians on it for this semi-rural area then.  A quick glance tonite makes me think there may be more businesses looking for jobs now.

As Christmas Eve 2010 fades away, I wish for you, the TL Kid, BTD, and all here a wonderful holiday (of whatever variety) and a prosperous (!) 2011.
