    A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse  vocabulary.

    Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could
    think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.

    Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.  The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

    For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked
    and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
    Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

    John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

    As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

    many movies are planned?

    I don't really think Vidal's version could be made into a successful movie.

    It would not be a conventional biopic, but with the emphasis on telling the story through the eyes of Hay and Nicolai, I think it has potential. You are probably right about its success, at least financially though. The world may not be ready for a wry take on that part of history.

    It will be interesting - I don't see how they keep it to a 2 hr movie. Must narrow the focus.

    I'm guessing it may be a long "epic" movie. After all, it is Dreamworks/Spielberg.

    about what it was based on. I'm a DDL sl~t, just give me the man and his acting. Even more fun, he has to go do the promo rounds :) We just don't get enough of that man . . . . {swoon}

    But his is a cold brilliance--like William Hurt.

    I am disappointed he won't be Lincoln.....

    He has such a great physical manifestation of compassion.....

    Day-Lewis is obviously talented but his is a cerebral mimicking......Loved him in Last of the Mohicans, which I watch now and then again on Saturdays on cable.  Thought his role in the oil movie, whatever it was called, was manipulative and self-indulgent grandstanding, the Oscar notwithstanding.

    Neeson could have just been the soul of Lincoln.  As Schindler and Jean Valjean, he has proven Lincoln was his role.

    Apparently, he was thinking he was too old to portray Lincoln.

    Too bad.

    Look, I don't do football.  I could care less. But then Joshua wants to go to Auburn, and then it does look like that what Joshua wants to apply himself to in life would make Auburn the college in this area he would need to go to.  Then spend three years shopping for Auburn wear for one son, and then have the little girls getting the hand-me-down hoodies and that whole family throwing a party at their house everytime Auburn is playing this year, and then name a dog Auburn so you are saying it 20 times a day swinging from lovingly to disdainful, and you wake up one morning knowing when Iron Bowl week is and that there is even such a thing.  Santa will probably bring me those car flags you roll up in your windows and I'll end up looking like some Alabama Idiot Auburn Ambassador.

    on the 1972 Iron Bowl. I spent a night at Auburn once long ago and couldn't sleep a wink all night because the frat house played the radio broadcast of the blocked punts from the '72 game over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until the sun came up. And the only bar I visited when there was called the Blocked Punt.

    72 was a special year. Radio only. it wasn't a terribly cold day in Auburn, but the team had been trounced by the tide the year before, and the expectation was the same.

    Fans Booed Auburn when they kicked a field goal in the 4th quarter, down 16-0.

    Then with 5 minutes left, Bill Newton blocks a punt, and David Langner runs it in for a score. 16-10. A few minutes later, the same players do it again! 17-16 Auburn!

    That was the year that Bear Bryant said he'd "nothing matters but beating that cow college across the state."

    While I was enrolled, we voted Bessie the Cow for homecoming queen. She wasn't allowed to receive the honors, though. She hadn't enrolled that quarter...;-)

    cruising the TSA site. We were talking about something and she was complaining about her internet being suddenly slow. I mentioned Comcast had just sent me an email they were using a new "security" program to "protect" their users. She says, well could it be because I was looking on the TSA site? I ask why. She's checking which airports have the scanners etc in the areas she wants to travel (for family). She no wants scans or enhanced pat! Funny, I thought I was going to rant about it to her, but she would be neutral . . . . she says "not gonna fly." Sad, all the airports she was looking at were from our area (NoCal) to where her few living relatives are. I think her and I may be taking some road/rail trips.

    I should note, she's a very active 75yo. swims a few times a week etc. My role model for aging . . . and for politics sake, she's a Mod Repub (but I think she's more liberal than she thinks she is considering how she said she voted last election, lol!~)

    Brown. Any prop I asked her about, she went the same way I did :) She was over eMeg early on. Doubt iCarly did much for her (plus she's pro-choice). She seems to be really old school Repub with a heavy dash of woman's rights in her thought process, and agrees with me on many issues . . . back when I first started voting and also women where on the ballot,  she would vote R top of ticket and then any women down ticket (mostly Dems in those days). So she's been voting women Sen, don't tell my dad (as she said;) ) She's also against PropHate, etc . . .

    Being 'closer' to home for the first time in 20 yrs, I'm trying not to rock the boat too much, so I was kinda surprised when we talked props and she was in line with me. But I guess we have to remember my MidWest mom has lived in the decadent Blue state of CA for about 55+ years. She must have been corrupted at some point ;)

    And can I just say . . . Thank DAWG for Blue States!!!!
