over $200,000/250,000 shouldn't get tax cuts extended.  Doesn't help economic recovery.  U.S. would have to borrow the money to make up for the loss of revenue.  WSJ

APNewsBreak: BofA delays foreclosures in 23 statesWASHINGTON (AP) -- Bank of America is delaying foreclosures in 23 states as it examines whether it rushed the foreclosure process for thousands of homeowners without reading the documents.

The move adds the nation's largest bank to a growing list of mortgage companies whose employees signed documents in foreclosure cases without verifying the information in them. Bank of America isn't able to estimate how many homeowners' cases will be affected, Dan Frahm, a spokesman for the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank, said Friday.
    ...
Several states are stepping up pressure to halt foreclosures. On Friday, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal asked a state court to freeze all home foreclosures for 60 days. Doing so "should stop a foreclosure steamroller based on defective documents," he said. AP

Jerry Brown is jumping on issue in CA, IIRC Grayson raise a fuss about it in FL.

The disclosure comes two days after JPMorgan said it would temporarily stop foreclosing on more than 50,000 homes so it could review documents that might contain errors. Last week, GMAC halted certain evictions and sales of foreclosed homes in 23 states to review those cases after finding procedural errors in some foreclosure affidavits.

    Mind boggling.

I wonder how long it will take to straighten out credit ratings for those improperly foreclosed.

might not have a lot to do with why the foreclosure assistance program (what's it called, HAMP?) has been such a total failure.

Saw a guy from Florida on Fox Business (amazingly) this afternoon telling his story about being victimized by this.  He said the judge was a major culprit because the guy didn't look at his paperwork, didn't look at the bank's, and just automatically granted the bank's foreclosure case and told him basically to shut up and go away.

    Transcript from thewrap(dot)com:

    He first said this:

RS-  No no, see that's the thing; it's more subtle. White folks usually don't see it. But we do - those of us who are minorities and women see it sometimes too from men in authority. Here, I'll give you my example its this 'You know what, I don't want you anchoring anymore, I really don't see you as an anchor, I see you more as a reporter, I see you more as a John Quinones - you know the guy on ABC. That's what he told me. He told me he saw me as John Quinones. Now, did he not realize that he was telling me, `When I see you I think of Hispanic reporters'? Cause in his mind I can't be an anchor. An anchor is what you give the high-profile white guys, you know. So he knocks me down to that and compares me to that and it happens all the time i think. To a certain extent Jon Stewart and Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart's a bigot.

    Then he said this:

RS: I must have at some point. But yeah, look my point is very simple. I see stuff O'Reilly and Glenn Beck do and I say, "wow that's very discriminatory, that's very prejudicial." And I look at stuff that Colbert and Jon  Stewart do and I think, "wow that's very prejudicial." So, you know we have a tendency to only look at one side. I'm saying we ought to be able to look at both sides. That's all I'm saying.

    2nd stimulus needed - Duh (5.00 / 1) (#11)
by MO Blue on Fri Oct 01, 2010 at 06:21:51 PM EST
Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz called for another round of federal stimulus dollars to spur the economy. He spoke Sept. 30 to the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) at its Fall Workshop.

"We will see in the next two years the real cost of there not being a second round of stimulus," he said. "We will see the economy slow down at a very high economic cost." business journal h/t FDL

Ever the political operative, Emanuel got a reminder of his own ways earlier Friday.

Before a smiling collection of senior staff members in the Roosevelt Room, economic adviser Austan Goolsbee gave Emanuel a dead fish wrapped in Chicago newspapers. An angry Emanuel had once famously done the same thing to a Democratic pollster with whom he was less than pleased. AP
