Could Lady Gaga's dress be any more strange? That's her arriving on the red carpet for tonight's 2010 Grammy Awards. (Photo by Herman Flores.)

There will be the big three (yet again): Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga, all of whom will perform. And a Michael Jackson tribute -- a 3-D broadcast of his orchestral ballad "Earth Song". His kids will be there.[More...]

Green Day will perform. Bon Jovi too, with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, and for some reason, it's a big deal that he's asking web followers to vote the final song they play. They started with six songs, are now down to three: "Livin on a Prayer", "It's My Life", and "Always". The first two are bound to be “We Weren’t Born to Follow” and “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.”

Her clothes are just part of what she's about. She can sing, play the piano AND her views on gay rights are VERY progressive.

Her "art" is subjective. I think she's phenomenal. Her MTV performance of 'Papparazi' was AWESOME!

I wouldn't call her wardrobe weird, I would call it avant-garde.

I don't think she was singing at all. Go back and look at it. There are times when the mic isn't anywhere near her mouth and yet her singing comes before her lips move.

if some of the performances last night were canned, or at least in the musical backing. Some of the sounds just seemed too rich and smooth in the overall production, as if they came from the recording studio and not the stage.
But, hey, I'm just a civilian in these matters, and the taped program we saw last night was so slickly edited and fast paced that it made it all the harder to tell what was real and what was faked.

That was wonderful! It was great to see Stevie Nicks on stage again. Taylor did her best, but she just doesn't quite have the range IMO. Still, I enjoyed it very much.

her top selling album of 2009, "Fearless", has sold 5.4 million copies. She was the top selling artist in total sales in 2008; the second highest selling artist in total sales for 2009; and would have been the top selling artist again last year if Michael Jackson were still alive.

It may be a mystery to some but the buying public obviously thinks far differently.

in a group that tends to buy records -- Young girls. Yes, I'm sure her fans fall into many categories, but the biggest spike in her sales per demographic is likely in the one I mentioned. That is the formula for winning, especially if you can also be a crossover artist. But kids move on to other trends when the one gets old.
I predicted last night based on her awful performance and on how her sound hasn't changed in the least that she'll soon falter. I was truly embarassed for her, especially when she hit that high note and sounded like the worst audition on American Idol.
I'm so glad that many of the other entertainers were soooo good. The show was way above average. My favorite was Elton/Lady Gaga. I have one of Elton's BluRays. Based on that I thought his voice was gone. It's not. Good for him.

I only know of one Taylor Swift song and it is played constantly, which certainly helps promote her. Seems limited in range, and not a really high quality voice. But, I agree with TinS...she fills a niche.
Her big song reminds me of an "It's my Party" kind of tween hit. But, she writes her own music and might well have a longer shelf life than many of the very popular one hit wonders of the past.
I love watching Lady GaGa and Pink. Both extremely talented and write their own music. They are like today's early Madonna and Cher (after she split from Sonny), and I expect to see both of them evolve as they mature, while they retain popularity.

performed well together, imo. Some good positive energy and agreeable sounds, even though Rhiannon is not my favorite Mac tune.

Also it was one of the several performances, along with the weird John-Gaga opener, which sounded authentically live.

(What was the deal with Elton and Lady getting all dusted up and wearing the ridiculous eyewear? Someone help me with the translation ...)

... when the nominees were the likes of Prince (Purple Rain), Tina Turner (Private Dancer), Dire Straits (Brothers in Arms), and the Grammy for Album of the Year went to - drum roll, please - Lionel Ritchie for Dancing on the Ceiling.

It'll probably be like that with the Oscars this year, with James Cameron and Avatar steamrolling the competition, when in my opinion the Best Picture award should go to his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, and her phenomenal Iraq War thriller, The Hurt Locker.

He's very popular among guitar players, because he's self-taught and has a unique -- and VERY dynamic -- playing style. Not as refined as (say) Leo Kottke, but still impressive. I've seen him twice, in small clubs. He's a personable and unassuming guy. Ask him to play Romeo and Juliet, it's a tour de force.

just read that one of my favorite singer/songwriter/musician won the award for Best Country Instrumental. That would be Steve Wariner for his Producer's Medley. I love Steve, and am so glad he won.

is they always give the award for the "most annoying song" of the year. I actually like some of these artists. I don't like the songs chosen by the Grammy committee for these artists.

"Single Ladies" is my least favorite Beyonce song this year. And "Poker Face" is the worst Lady Gaga song of the year too (IMO). Of all the songs on the "record of the year" list - the winning song is by far the most annoying.

I kind of like the Lady Gaga dress. It's different. But then, I thought Byork's swan was kind cool too so... If you're gonna go weird, you might as well go all out. At least it gives us all something to talk about. I would never wear anything like it, but props to those who do.

do not read blogs, music magazines, the iTunes chart as most of this "music" is only popular with the teenie bopper set. No offense meant to you Jeralyn but nobody I know even listens to this crap nor the radio.
