Tuesday Night TV and Open Thread

After four hours at the jail today, I'm ready for some TV. There's The Biggest Loser, Part II of Dancing With the Stars and The Good Wife.

The best I think will be The Biggest Loser. What are you watching?

If you'd rather talk about something else, go right ahead.

I like Julianna Margulies and liked the show; it has potential.

I think it's trite so far and I don't think I'm crazy about Margolies. Her acting seems limited to playing a deer caught in the headlights. The writing sucks. The associate saying "I interned for the Innocence Project, my dad is Barry Scheck's best friend" made me wince. The daughter role seems like a redux of James Woods' last prosecutor show  (which I liked.)

you can step out of the real world and lose yourself in fiction; if the show replicated real life, it would be a documentary, and no one would want to watch it - well, unless there were dancing, weight loss or a marriage proposal involved...I'm sorry, but part of me is finding it funny that someone who apparently loves Big Brother, DWTS and the Bachelor/Bachelorette is criticizing a fictional drama for being "trite."

If I were Margulies' character, I would not look like a deer in the headlights - I would probably look like the poor dead deer at the side of the road.

but it has to be believable and creative. This seems like a rip-off of the Eliott Spitzer story. It's no Brothers and Sisters or even Desperate Housewives. And yes, reality tv is great. Partly because of the originality and unique characteristics of each contestant.

But I do hold legal shows to higher standards. LA Law was great, the law and order shows aren't. This one seems more like Law and Order, and the character is not credible so far as a  criminal defense lawyer. But we're only 30 minutes in. The private investigator is the only character I like so far.

Raising the Bar on TNT?  I found it very enjoyable, but I have no idea how accurate - or not - it was.

I agree that there was a little too much Eliot Spitzer in this plot - but I also think that one of the things people never get to see is how the "good wife" and the families deal with the aftermath of something like that.

via Yahoo News, the AP reports it. From the piece:

"Many analysts believe that al-Qaida has been alarmed by Obama's comparative popularity in the Middle East, especially following his landmark speech to the Muslim world in Cairo in June.

"'America has come in a new, hypocritical face. Smiling at us, but stabbing us with the same dagger that Bush used,' said Al-Qaida No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri in the message.

"'God willing, your end will be at the hands of the Muslim nation, so that the world and history will be free of your crimes and lies,' he said addressing Obama at the end of the two-part video."

This sounds pretty scary to me....
