Playing Hillary

Julianne Moore was scheduled to play Hillary Clinton in the HBO film "The Special Relationship" which "chronicles the unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s." A scheduling conflict forced her to drop out. She's being replaced by Hope Davis, who (to my eye at least) more closely resembles Hillary.

Bill Clinton will be played by Dennis Quaid, while Michael Sheen will take on (for the third time) the role of Tony Blair.

Emma Thompson is the only actress who should even try to play Hillary Clinton.

but has she ever played an American?  I can't think of any time that she has.

Why, yes. And I believe that (none / 0) (#10)

American was Hillary Rodham Clinton, eh?

It didn't take a look-alike.  It took an act-alike, a gutsy woman to give Bill h*ll in that flick.  Emma Thompson was terrific.  (Btw, seen her lately in Last Chance Harvey?  A sweet, low-key flick, a relief amid the action and sci-fi stuff out there.)

    I think Randy would be a better choice for Bill (5.00 / 1) (#8)

i also find it odd that they pick an actor to play bill close to his age but choose a significantly younger woman to play Hillary as they are very close in age -- but that's Hollywood.

    Bill is handsome (none / 0) (#9)

Aw come on, Randy Quaid as Bill Clinton?
The last time he was photographed on the red carpet, Randy weighed three hundred pounds and was wearing a caftan.

    Tea Leoni (none / 0) (#2)

I have always thought Tea Leoni would be best person to play Hillary & Richard Gere for Bill.

    Hope Davis (none / 0) (#3)

I wouldn't have thought of Hope Davis, but seeing that picture I can see she does look like HRC, much more than Julianne Moore does.

I have always thought Tea Leoni would be best person to play Hillary & Richard Gere for Bill.

Intriguing! They both have terrific charisma, like the Clintons, and Leoni does sorta look like a prettier/girlier version of Hillary. Gere doesn't look like Bill but he has that same sly-dog charm. This would be a good fit!

    Remember Annie Potts? (none / 0) (#4)

I always thought that Annie Potts from "Designing Women" bore a strong, facial resemblance to Hillary Clinton.

Dennis Quaid, not Randy (none / 0) (#12)

Dennis Quaid, not Randy Quaid. Dennis is the hot one.

    (Perfect for Bill.)

seen her lately in Last Chance Harvey?

Cream City, I just saw this and thought it was terrific. Thompson and Hoffman have wonderful chemistry, and the movie, while predictable and feel-good as any romantic comedy, is never manipulative or sentimental.

    I liked it also. Saw second half first--on (none / 0) (#13)
