Thursday Afternoon Open Thread

The Wingnuts have been rolled out this afternoon in the Sotomayor hearings.

It should end shortly. Leahy announced that he will schedule a vote in the Judiciary Committee for July 21 (the GOP can impose a week delay on that vote) so the vote will be July 28. While it would be great for the Dems if every Republican voted against her but I suspect a few will vote for her. Her confirmation by the full Senate seems a foregone conclusion. She will be taking her seat on the Supreme Court on the first Monday in October.

This is an Open Thread.

Citizens United v F. E. C. on Sept. 9th or will she have to wait until the first Monday in October?

    I think she said (5.00 / 1) (#2)

that she thought she would participate. She had better, or there's no shot at all of saving campaign finance regulations (unless Souter sticks around).

    in paradise.

Someone tell me again what the point of electing all of those extra red state Democrats last year was again?

    To be honest (5.00 / 1) (#6)

I'm pretty darn sick of some of my blue state democrats. They pander and pay lip service and then basically do whatever they want because they know they are likely to keep getting 75% of the vote every election. (Republicans are a rare breed in Western WA.)

But I fear you are right about the trouble we're going to have from so-called Blue Dogs the next three years. Is it any wonder they are the ones who partner with GOPers to form those congressional "gangs"?

On the other hand, Obama is the one who has fetishized bi-partisanship.

What good is having a majority if you're too afraid to use it?
