When Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III Admired Judges Who Respected SCOTUS Precedent

During the John Roberts confirmation hearings, when Roberts argued against applying discrimination laws in memorandum, Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III was adamant in defense of judges who "respected precedent:"

Roberts’ memorandums and briefs were “absolutely consistent with the Supreme Court ruling of the United States at that time. So, all I would say is, I think it’s unfair to suggest that he has a record that indicates that he was somehow wrong on civil rights at that time.” When asked about his brief as Deputy Solicitor General in Franklin v. Gwinnett County Public Schools, arguing that victims of intentional discrimination should not receive damages under Title IX, Senator Sessions said: “On the Gwinnett case, the Title IX, the women’s education case, the position you took that would deny the right to sue a state entity, a government entity for money damages, wasn’t that a position consistent with the position of the Court of Appeals that had written the only opinion on the subject? … So you, in advocating on that position, were expressing a view that was the view of the highest federal court in the land at that time?

(Emphasis supplied.) Of course, that involved discrimination against non-white males so of course Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, admirer of the KKK, labeller of the NAACP as a "commie" organization, would think that. You see, Sessions has deep empathy for the poor white male - so oppressed in our society. Everybody else? Not so much, The perfect embodiment of the GOP.

    . . . of the GOP"

he really is.  you  have to wonder what thinking republicans, assuming there are any left, think about him being the face of the republicans in this context.

Let's be clear.  America has gone nuts now.  A black guy is now the President. Supreme Court justices are retiring.  The past totalitarian Republican ruling of the nation has brought us to our economic knees and we still don't know how far under we are going. The rest of you guys who used to be onboard all went purple, the South is making a last stand right now!

but you know I think one of the other ripple effects of Obama being elected is that many people who probably thought their vote didnt matter and their participation was pointless no longer think that.
they have seen it can be done.  it wont be easy to keep them down on the farm now.

This is just way wrong too but I'm going to say it anyhow because we saw it before our eyes.  Right after the inauguration and stretching out for several weeks afterwards, people of color around here were strangely happy in a sort of "we all got a hit of Prozac" sort of way.  I tried not to read into my surroundings what I might predict to see, but when my husband came home one day and asked me pointedly if I too thought AA people around me seemed a whole lot happier lately we came to the conclusion that AA people in Alabama have gone through a very happy phase that could lead to deepening self esteem.

I see this morning that an officer is refusing to be deployed on the basis that Obama is not a citizen, and therefore cannnot be commander in chief.  Good grief.

Knock yourself out dude :)  When it comes to the military though it is always a good idea to weigh the consequences of your actions before you let Fox News talk you into ANYTHING, AND I MEAN ANYTHING :) It is a free country though:)

off of someone risking Leavenworth....cuz this B.S. does not have grounds for argument like a few of the soldiers who refused to deploy because the legality of the Iraq War was questionable for them and was an order they could not obey.  What an interesting country though.  And what a conjob Fox News is!

You are getting out of control. For the second time, I have deleted all your ratings. You are mis-using the "1" which is reserved for trolls.

I am going to ban you from commenting if you don't start respecting other commenters.

I haven't read all the comments, I just received e-mail complaints about your's (and no, not from Jim) so I looked at your rating and scanned some of your comments. Sorry if others were rude towards you and when I get time, I will take a look and delete any comments that are offensive or personally attack you.

It is not a fair system, Jeralyn does not monitor every comment or rating, but those who complain to her get results. I have gotten at least a hundred 1 ratings for arguing with cultists, and those like our unnamed resident troll-like non-troll.

Not worth it to get bent out of shape. Remember what happened to Sailor? His head exploded and he never returned.. not worth it, your comments are appreciated by many here, including me.

a couple tens of thousands more and these criminal occupations are over...besides, do you want a cat who would make such an objection with a M-16 in his hands representing America in the desert of Iraq or the mountains of Afghanistan?  Not me.

I figured this was some punk enlisted kid, but nope, this is an Army Major.  This is an officer and a person with substantial training who has weilded a lot of military power over little people and he's pulling this?  They are going to throw the effing book at him too and I'm glad.  He is toast.  He has allowed his "political beliefs" to interfere with duty and he isn't some punk Lt.  So be it.  Pathetic that someone this ignorant made it to the rank of Maj. but it does happen.
