Patti Blagojevich Defends Her Husband

So the Court wouldn't give Rod Blagojevich permission to go to Costa Rica to participate in I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, the worst reality show ever.

His wife Patti has taken his place. The show premiered last night and is on again tonight.

Patti is about the only watchable person on this disaster of a show. She actually does a good job defending her husband's administration. I liked her.

Guess there's one other thing Rod Blagojevich doesn't deserve, besides being Governor of Illinois: His wife.

[Actually, now that Spencer and Heidi who I never heard of before today are gone, maybe the show will improve. They totally trashed it.]

Update: It was too good to be true. Speidi are coming back to the show.

    If it's a "disaster of a show" ... (none / 0) (#1)

... then why are you watching it?

Jeralyn: "Patti is about the only watchable person on this disaster of a show. She actually does a good job defending her husband's administration. I liked her. Guess there's one other thing Rod Blagojevich doesn't deserve, besides being Governor of Illinois: His wife."

Oh, please. You're not that naive, are you?

Patti Blagojevich was caught on an FBI wiretap, vociferously urging her husband to threaten retaliation to the Tribune Co. in its proposed sale of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field.

Further, the former governor got her placed in a $100K-plus position as a fundraising director with a Chicago-area non-profit that was supposed to be helping the indigent.

Patti also maintained an eight-year business relationship with convicted political pay-for-player Tony Rezko, and she's currently under investigation for some pretty suspect real estate dealings.

Patti Blagojevich is probably as corrupt as her husband. She just hasn't been idicted - yet.

    Why would I care about any of that? (5.00 / 1) (#3)

You think I, of all people, have something against people who are charged with crime? Did you forget what site you are on?

Did you watch her to form your own opinion of her personality? No, I didn't think so.

I don't like Patti Blagojevich because of her well-documented behavior. Personality has nothing to do with it. Some of the most charming people can still be the most callous of cads if there's a nice chunk of cash to be had.

You have your area of expertise, well, I have mine, too. I worked for years in politics at a pretty high staff level, before pursuing my present career as a grantwriter and fundraising consultant for nonprofit organizations and philanthropic foundations and individuals.

And because of that experience, any nonprofit organization that pays a development director (fundraiser) six figures -- particularly one who heretofore had no prior documented experience in the field -- is going to raise my antennae with regards to both its operations and the exact nature of its relationship to the late Blagojevich regime.

I look at CCIL's donor history, i.e., the amounts and sources of its donations and gifts received, and I see nothing in that history that justifies the type of salary paid to a novice like Patti Blagoevich. I work for a very reputable consulting firm, and we'd never charge a client such excessive fees as Patti Blagojevich's contract stipulated she be paid. Donors have a right to expect that their money is mostly directed to our client's respective missions and their beneficiaries, and not skimmed off the top by the fundraising consultant.

As the offspring of one of the Chicago Democrats' longtime stalwarts -- her father is longtime Alderman Richard Mell, who had represented the 33rd Ward on the Chicago City Council since 1975 -- Patti Blagojevich comes from a discernable line of political lampreys, and the Chicago Christian Industrial League was the trout.

Where did a century-old nonprofit organization like CCIL, which historically has had trouble making ends meet, come up with the money to pay a rookie "fundraiser" $15,000 a month plus expenses? I'm not making any accusations, but if I had to hazard a guess based on my own professional experience, I'd say that someone was laundering money, and CCIL was the washing machine.

At the very least, Jeralyn, I believe that Rod and Patti Blagojecich, and perhaps one or more of their political sugar daddies, took undue advantage of a financially struggling not-for-profit organization that ostensibly exists to serve Chicago's homeless, poor and indigent.

And if you can find something admirable in that, I'm all ears.

    Aloha.

kind of quality-TV sin by watching two episodes of "Tori and Dean" - but it's really kind of a sweet show.

Fox's "Mental" is quite good - it's like a kinder, gentler House in the psych ward.

By the way, are these, um, "celebrities" sure they actually are going to get out of the jungle?

    I'm a Celb - horrendous. (none / 0) (#5)

Not sure how it ended up on my tv screen both Monday night, and Tuesday. Once I noticed it Monday I spent about 5 minutes trying to figure out who those celebrities were....it was during the Patty tells all ending with Janice D telling her how brave she is and the couple praying for her. That was all I could take.

Darn show appeared again last night...Lou Diamond Philips is one of the celebrities! So, that's what's happened to him, I said outloud....and changed the channel again.

Pretty sure I won't know how this season ends...is this the 1st or 2nd season? I doubt any of them will be reviving their careers off this show.
