Via Atrios and Pufferfish, get ready for Rendition Gitmo, the video game.

A SCOTTISH firm is set to make millions from a computer game based on Guantanamo Bay. And they have brought in Moazzam Begg – one of nine British Muslims held in the jail before being released in 2005 – to help them get it right.

The Glasgow firm T-Enterprise hopes to make £3 million pounds from Rendition: Guantanamo where gamers play terrorist suspects trying to escape from the prison. Begg, 41, has been helping them get the details right, and will even have a staring role in the game.

    torture seem to be found in the movies. Violent crime and torture mixed into interrogations have been a primary topic in tv and film for decades.

    Think about it, just because they are making a buck, the world will finally see exactly what was going on and still continues to go inside Gitmo.

    I have a feeling that what we think happened isn't even close to the real deal.

    If this game has a real feel it will be used politically for a long time.  If it is verifiably accurate, it could get some people in very deep trouble.  It probably the closest thing the public will ever see of the ninety some tapes the CIA destroyed.

    It's not a subject for a game.  These folks will be sued in the future for every nickle they make on the game...by the survivors of an attack by someone trained with 'the game.'

    So basically it's sort of like GTA.  Maybe the makers of GTA should be sued for INSPIRING TEH CHILDRENS TO STEAL CARS?!  I really don't care what you think.  I love GTA, I love playing it, and I am the biggest humanist you will ever meet.  I'd never actually do anything that I do in the game.  

    And it's beyond ridiculous to say that it has any intrinsic value for "terrorist training".  You silly nanny-staters have no respect for freedom of speech.

    nothing relieves police state stress like a good old fashioned GTA rampage...I could see myself digging this game...I love a good prison break theme.  And I too couldn't hurt a fly in real life.

    Plus I think it will raise even more awareness about what a human rights embarassment the place is.

    How real are you expecting this game to be?
    Will prisoners going on hunger strikes and being force fed with tubes also be part of the game? How about waterboarding? Desecrating the Koran?

    These people are out to make a buck, they are not trying to educate.

    I am finding it very interesting how political games are becoming.  there was recently a game based on the holocaust that got great reviews from some jewish organizations for its capacity to educate.

    maybe this is a good thing.

    What's next a game showing women escaping from rapists/abusive spouses? I'm sure that can be marketed as "educational", i.e., bringing awareness to violence against women and at the same time teaching women escape tactics.
