Late Night: Susan Boyle Admitted to Health Clinic

Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle

What a difference a day makes. Susan Boyle was transported by ambulance today from her London hotel to a private health clinic, reportedly suffering exhaustion and some mental distress. [More...]

I suspect the same thing would have happened had she won first place. The sudden and overwhelming celebrity was probably as enormous a burden as it was an opportunity.

I hope she gets excellent care and recovers quickly. I'm sure Simon or someone is planning on having her record an album, and I'd bet it will secure her financial future.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

    I can only imagine the stress (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by Inspector Gadget on Mon Jun 01, 2009 at 12:14:35 AM EST
It's always a major crash of emotions at the conclusion of a huge event after dedicated preparations for weeks/months. No matter the outcome, just the pressure release is extraordinary. Had it simply been the competition, she may have still been exhausted, but every single talk show in America, interviews of all kinds, reporters and fans surrounding her home brought a new level of stress.

I trust Simon and Piers will see to it she is "groomed" into an album and slowly decides how to use her talent. By groomed, I mean psychologically how to handle the celebrity, stage presence, and choosing what she will do. She could sing for soundtracks to movies, animated films, commercials, and probably a plethora of other choices if the stage doesn't appeal to her.

I wish her nothing but success and health. She's done something that just about every living being has dreamed of.

    I'm so buying her CD (5.00 / 2) (#4)

And I don't particularly like Andrew Lloyd Weber. But she really has a lovely voice, and I'm sure with a good producer she will make a fine album.

    Kudos to Nevada (5.00 / 1) (#2)

    Nevada Partnership Bill Now Law:

Proponents were able to persuade two members of both the Senate and the Assembly to switch sides since earlier votes. Many were pressured by executives for the casino industry, who feared a boycott by gay travelers.

Now that's how it's done. Too bad they have a marriage ban in their constitution.

Disney, Dreamworks, Fox, all of the big studios are making animated movies, and it seems like they all have musical interludes.  At this stage in her (new) career, I think Susan Boyle will make an excellent addition to many of the projects like that.  It would give her a chance to get used to working within the star making machinery - without having to churn out a whole album right away.

But I would say it looks like an "embalmed" lady.

    Hence how disturbing.

I wondered if the tabloid reports of her (none / 0) (#8)

"lashing out" at reporters might have resulted in lowered public goodwill toward her, that the reports might have affected the outcome.

I have no idea--it just struck me at the time that there were some knives out for her when those reports came out. Of course, if the pressure was causing her to "lash out" in public, that would not go unreported.

Alas. I felt she should win, but I wasn't there. I did feel she had a slightly shaky start to her second to last song. I felt nerves were getting to her voice, but she finished strongly.

I can't imagine the pressure she was under.

the same way to the "lashing out" stories.

I felt that the media were out to tar her and deny her the victory by dampening the outpouring of positive emotion from the public.

It seemed to me that something was in it for somebody to run those negative stories on the eve of the decision.

    I wonder what, and who.

My guess is that someone felt that there was more money to be made if the winner was not Boyle.
