Sunday Night TV Thread

BTD has an open thread up here, but I'm starting another for tonight's tv.

I need a break from preparing for my Tuesday suppression hearing, so I'm watching The Ladies #1 Detective Agency, Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters and Celebrity Apprentice.

What are you watching or enjoying?

    Loving Ladies' #1 tonight (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by sallywally on Sun May 03, 2009 at 07:12:24 PM EST
as on every night I see it! The books seemed slow to me, but there are so many neat stimuli from music to clothing and hair to the wonderful quirkiness and courage of the characters that I can't miss even one episode!

    I am enjoying it too! (none / 0) (#2)

    Always fun, and refreshingly different.

the series is an example of how teevee/movies can add so much -- it's like a quick trip away, in a nanosecond, to a marvelous land, Botswana.  And oh, the music. . . .

Sadly, only one episode is left for us to see.  But the glimpse we have gotten of Botswana will remain etched in the memory, as the series is so well done.  And so well cast, although they're all sort of costars to the beautiful country and people.

Just watched the first season dvd (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by caseyOR on Sun May 03, 2009 at 10:15:02 PM EST
of In Plain Sight, with Mary McCormack (she was on the West Wing.) Loved it. McCormack plays a U.S. Marshall, living in Albuquerque. She and her partner supervise people in the Witness Protection Program.

I love TV shows with smart, tough, flawed women over 40, hence my fondness for Holly Hunter's show, Saving Grace. McCormack's character is all those things.

The second season of Saving Grace comes out on dvd soon. I've already put a hold on it at the library.

Since I do not have cable, I am very grateful that dvds exist.

I love this show.  Mary McCormack is great.  I'm also watching 60M about how Texaco raped the Amazon in Ecuador and left it full of pollution.

And, then I'll be watching Amazing Race and Brothers & Sisters on the TiFaux.

    Wow! That'll clean out some brain cells! (5.00 / 1) (#13)

Jeralyn: "I'm watching The Ladies #1 Detective Agency, Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters and Celebrity Apprentice. What are you watching or enjoying?"

I'm sorry, but that's just one slow-pitch lob over the plate too many. I can't resist.

Jeralyn, the only time I want to see "The Donald" on reality TV is the episode where his entire portfolio crashes, he has to flee the country and seek asylum in Dubai to avoid RICO charges, and the federal bankruptcy court appoints Joan Rivers and ex-wife Ivana as joint special masters to oversee his still-smoldering holdings through the Chapter 7 liquidation process. (Bah-DUM-bum-bum!)

With apologies to the late Chicago Cubs' announcer Harry Carey, whom I paraphrase: "It might be, it could be, it is! It's gone!"

Enjoy your night off, Jeralyn, and go kick some legal butt on Tuesday -- and as you prepare, remember always the immortal last words of the late Gen. George Armstrong Custer upon his approach to the Little Bighorn River on June 25, 1876, as preserved for posterity in his written communique, delivered by courier ex post facto, to Capt. Will Benteen, who had been ordered to the rear by Custer earlier that morning to guard the 7th Cavalry's supply train:

    "Benteen: Come quick! Big village!"

    Aloha.

Watching Amazing Race (it has been a great season). Now about to watch the Tudors. It's totally historically inaccurate, of course, but you can't deny the eye candy.

Would like to have seen Keisha and Jen (5.00 / 1) (#6)
by Anne on Sun May 03, 2009 at 08:38:17 PM EST
in the final three, so now that they are out, I don't know who to pull for; kind of annoyed with Tammy and Victor for U-turning Keisha and Jen, Margie and Luke get on my nerves, and I'm just kind of indifferent about the cheerleaders.

    Oh, well...

But by next week I'll be pulling for Victor and Tammy - they seemed to do the U-turn for sound strategic reasons, so even though I was sorry to see Jen and Keisha go, it was fair. I don't like that there are U-turns in TAR at all.

I generally like Tammy and Victor a lot, but was a little dismayed when they got so excited seeing soldiers in Tienanmen Square. I understand they were just admiring the pageantry, but still it was a little creepy.

I wouldn't mind seeing the cheerleaders win, actually, for all their faults. Cara seems like a genuinely nice person and probably all that stands between Jaime and an angry mob. They are a good team.

and a "to be continued".  Episode is about a young female at a PA Military school.  Kinda depressing as it's set in current time, not many years ago. Aka, we've come a long ways baby, NOT.

    On to Brothers and Sisters.

All four shows were (none / 0) (#14)
by Jeralyn on Mon May 04, 2009 at 12:38:58 AM EST
excellent. Celebrity Apprentice was a real sleeper this season...the more "B list" the celebrities are, the more interesting the show. That Joan Rivers, at 75,  got into the final two -- and she did it by hard work and being herself -- is pretty cool, and I've never been a Joan Rivers fan. Annie Duke will probably win, but she is the most self-absorbed contestant next to the awful Omarosa ever.

And now back to real life. In a few weeks, all the shows will be over and I'll stop doing late night posts about them.

    Love #1 Ladies Detective Agency... (none / 0) (#15)

and was sad to learn there's only one more episode for this season. My mother has loved these books for years (and I've given her several for birthdays, etc.), but I've never read one. Now I know what she was on to!

It was a BBC show. They call 6 shows a 'series'

    More like mini series :p
