Sunday Open Thread

I seldom watch the Sunday Talk shows anymore. They just seem irrelevant to me. Do you folks still watch?

In any event, here's an Open Thread.

being given on Sunday talk shows, the question would be "who kidnapped the idjits who schedule the usual idjits and put actual brainy types on teevee again?"

I try to watch.  I was raised to watch smart people making us smarter on Sunday mornings.  So I tune in each week . . . but then I don't see smart people.  So I sigh and turn back to my dwindling newspaper, magazines, books, anywhere for actual info.

to my younguns, including the daughter who gave us all Snuggies for Christmas, since she loved hers.  And they actually do work wonderfully at keeping us warm against the wintry chill, helping to keep down the thermostat and heating bill.

But we look like weirdly rainbow-hued monks.

The younguns did a pub crawl for a friend's birthday last night, when we got hit with late-March horrors of cold and yet more snow.  Their Snuggies would have been just the thing.

I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg and good investments are hard to find at this time.

Stopped watching some time ago.  But I'll tell you this, the Big East is having one incredible March Madness run.  And I was not surprised to see Billy Donovan quickly disabuse people of the notion he was jumping to Kentucky.  Why would anyone want that job right now?  Who wants to coach every home game with 20,000 plus assistant coaches in the stands?  If there was one coach I'd go after, however, if I needed one, it would be Randy Bennett from Saint Mary's.  That guy does more at that little school than I can imagine anyone doing anyplace else.  That he's a fellow UCSD alumni, of course, plays a part in my bias.  Go Tritons!

We no return you to your regularly scheduled nonsense.

is a grill, the meat product of your choice, associated sides, condiments and accessories, the malt-based alcoholic beverage of your choice, a TV, and lawn furniture.

Actually driving to a stadium is overrated.  And bad things can happen to your car, too, when people are careless about where they dispose their coals (like in a parking space).  [NB - these videos being from Joisey, and a Jets game, there's no lack of profanity....]

...I see.  I was going to ask what your favorite course out there was.  I keep wanting to play this course, but there never seems to be enough time when I visit--or the weather is sufficiently bad enough to discourage a round.

I've been trying to get my Mom to take a few lessons and see if she likes the game.  She's a high average bowler (well into her 70's) and I think she'd be quite good at it.

are my local favorites...especially the old front nine at Chevy for a 6PM-to-dusk sunset round.  Just lovely.

I'll ask my 'kid' if he's played the Nile Center...looks nice.

Yes!  Encourage your Mom.  I, too, was a trophy-bowler back in the day.  But unless you can practice or play a lot, golf is pretty frustrating in the learning stages...and even worse later on!  (I noticed Tiger threw a club in disgust yesterday).

...in June, so perhaps I'll take her out to the driving range and have her hit a few balls with me.  She was a world-class gymnist as a kid and has always been very athletic (she's the one who taught me to play basketball as well as bowl), so she'd probably be a natural.

Golf can't be anymore frustrating for her than when she doesn't bowl up to her expectations.

It never fails to make me feel better about my game to see the best throw their clubs in frustration--or 5 putt like the one guy yesterday.

Yes, Ludlow is world-class.  It's a challenge in many ways.  Rumor has it that the average loss of long-ball hitters on the front 9 is nine balls.  You could make a living wandering the woods for lost balls!
