Thanks to all for the good wishes on yesterday's open thread.  The little guy and mommy are doing great.  Daddy is getting exhausted chasing a toddler around the house while mommy rests up :)

Is there a family connection to it?

You will link us all to a photo when you can, right?

Desmond is my favorite stranded member of the group on "Lost" :)

Like his big sister Audrey, it's just a name we liked.  My wife watches Lost but she swears that had nothing to do with it!  Both the kids have family names for a middle name, though.

We have lots of pictures, but my wife is generally in charge of uploading... I'm afraid the camera will break if I touch it ;)  She did manage to upload one photo of the sleepy little guy you can see here.

What a sweet little guy. Desmond is a good name. If not a subliminal suggestion from watching Lost, perhaps it comes from an old, deep memory of Desmond Tutu and the fight against apartheid in South Africa.

There is a little story there.  We had quite a hard time coming up with a name we both liked, we have more girl names than we know what to do with, but boy names are hard!  My wife liked Desmond, most other people seemed to like it a lot, but I wasn't 100% sold.

Then a couple weeks ago, I'm up late watching the Craig Ferguson show, and his guest turns out to be none other than Archbishop Desmond Tutu.  I mean, seriously, Desmond Tutu on a late-night talk show that no one even watches?  What are the odds?!  The next morning, I told my wife that I took it as a sign.

By popular demand, here is another photo for my friends at TL.

This is a special and spectacular time for all of you....I'll share something you probably don't know about parenting. Mine are now 26 and 30 and I still love watching them sleep. I think that will never change.

    he quotes the WSJ:

"The Obama administration, after months of criticizing Wall Street, has been scrambling to woo top bankers and financiers to back its latest bailout plan," the Wall Street Journal reported today. "In recent days, in spite of public furor over huge bonuses paid at American International Group Inc., the administration has concluded that it needs the private sector to play a central role in fixing the economy. So over the weekend, the White House worked to tone down its Wall Street bashing and to win support from top bankers for the bailout plan announced Monday, which will rely on public-private investments to soak up toxic assets."

    The story continued:

The stock market continued to drop, causing some unease inside the White House. At one morning meeting of the senior staff in the Roosevelt Room, an official turned over in dismay a newspaper with a headline that blared: "Obama Bear Market."

White House aides returned to some key Wall Street fund-raisers who had helped give credibility to Mr. Obama's presidential campaign. Some had complained about lack of access in the early days of his White House, according to several of them. Among those called were Robert Wolf, president of UBS AG's investment bank, and Mark Gallogly, co-founder of Centerbridge Partners, a New York private-investment firm. Both of them are plugged into the financial world and could support the policy on Wall Street...

Yes, Wall Street just does not have enough access to the WH right now.

on Salon on NY's underground poker scene.

Why the state and city refuse to legalize and tax is beyond me...could definitely help with the budget crunches, and maybe they could stop milking smokers and hassling the Native American tribes over tobacco taxes.  Not to mention free NY'ers would no longer be subject to legal theft of their rolls by the state.

Wall St. could take a lesson from the author too....

If you can't afford to lose your stack on any given hand, then you shouldn't be playing.

It's all gambling...lets stop discriminating against the blue collar varieties.

Can you believe they are trying to chase down the citizens of San Diego who were lucky enough to receive some of the drug-dealer funded bailout of taxpayers I mentioned a few days ago in an O.T.?

I sh*t you not. They're even talking about money laundering charges...the bastards.

Where is oculus...in your prosecuting experience, the money laundering threat is a bunch of bunk right?  They couldn't possibly get away with charging a motorist who has a c-note land on his windshield with money laundering, can they?

Two, good f^cking god, passengers are already sealed in an airtight metal tube, so flight attendants should keep their intrusions into personal aural space to an absolute minimum.
