AP:

The U.S. and Iran have a chance to "work out a way of talking" that could lead to understandings on a range of issues, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday. In a hopeful assessment of prospects for improved relations with Tehran, Clinton told reporters at the State Department that the U.S. remains opposed to Iran getting nuclear weapons. She added that the Obama administration hopes the two nations can work out "a better understanding of one another."

"There is an opportunity for the Iranian government to demonstrate a willingness to unclench their fist and to begin a serious and responsible discussion about a range of matters," Clinton said. "We still persist in our view that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons, that it would be a very unfortunate course for them to pursue, and we hope there will be opportunities in the future for us to develop a better understanding of one another and to work out a way of talking that would produce positive results for the people of Iran."

    'We Can't Do Anything Anyway'.

    The Iraq timeline is going to be stretched out. We are short handed in Afghanistan. Europe will not provide troops for either place or for Iran. Talk is all we have when it comes to Iran.

    And speaking of an overextended military, don't look for Obama in his timid quest to right the economy to cut our biggest discretionary expenditure of all - The Defense Budget. Nope. He will cut underprivileged cafeteria meals before the DoD budget. You know, programs that don't work.

    cafeteria meals. Last week I was in Dr. Office for check up and there was a gentleman in the waiting room with his family. His daughter is on a "meal plan" in Fla. For lunch, she was given a carton of milk, a piece of cheese and 2 slices of bread.

    We sure have come a long way baby. I was just disgusted.

    I hate that the AP has allowed this sort of valuation to enter their stories. There was a time that this type of phrase would not appear in an AP story.

    Ahmadinejad's (sp?) place, then things will get a lot easier.  Us beginning to withdraw from Iraq improves the possibility of isolating the extremists who came to power after mid-2003.  And it helps to have a president not named George W. Bush and a vice-president not named Dick "I-will-do-business-with-you-and-then-accuse-you-for-political-purposes" Cheney.

    that, as Obama seemed to indicate last night, we dont know if anyone in the M.E has nuclear weapons?

    Because if that's the case than we doubly have to keep an eye on those Iranians; we wouldnt want them to be the only nation in the region with nuclear weapons!

    Pakistan. And Iran getting closer. And there was buzz that Saudi Arabia wanted them. Given there money and oil leverage to do as they please I wouldn't discount a very active and advanced program going on there.

    Between Pakistan and Russia there was and is plenty of technology to go around.
