    He was the great caricaturist for the New York Review of Books. His best known piece is probably the image of LBJ showing a surgical scar shaped like Vietnam.

    when your overpriced "high speed internet" is slower than AT&T's 3G, you need to invest in your connection. A T1 is generally insufficient these days.

    on Monday, ABC airs what is basically the  Canadian version of the Wire. It's called Davinci's Inquest  and the final season is finishing up right now. I don't know if they'll keep airing it after that.

    The show actually started before the Wire and what I've seen of it is pretty great. It's centered around Dominic Davinci, a Vancouver coroner. It follows him and a host of other police. Unlike the Wire they don't really incorporate the POVs of the criminials, but it seems like a pretty realistic series.

    But, I think he's got a point that arguing for the entire population on an issue as costly and important as health care and insurance premiums while under the influence is egregious enough to warrant discipline on a severe level.

    committee hearings, it was clear that he's a garbletalker at the best of times...unless he was imbibing day AND night.  I couldn't follow anything he said and his patterns were so annoying I had to mute him.

    It appears the voters may mute him for good.

    While waiting for some holiday leftovers to warm, I surfed this lovely instance of product placement:

    CLEARWATER, Fla. - An 11-year-old Florida girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend are accused of plotting to kill the girl's mother by setting her bedroom on fire while the woman slept Tuesday, police said.

    Samantha Broadhead and Jack Ault have been charged with attempted murder and arson after the fire in Clearwater, about 20 miles west of Tampa on Florida's Gulf Coast.

    Clearwater Police Department detectives say the young couple poured gasoline on Nancy Broadhead's bedroom floor and bed, and then set the room aflame. Police say the pair escaped in the mother's 2007 Ford Focus

    About 3 PM this afternoon, as I was whiling away the time at the DMV, someone exclaimed "OMG! It's snowing." And so it was. And so it continued. Approx. 4 inches in just a couple of hours. Just in time for the evening commute.

    We were expecting cold and maybe rain. Not snow. Not a single local weatherperson found a hint of snow on their various computer/radar models.

    Snow is quite the weather event here. We don't get enough of it often enough to have the skills and the equipment needed to deal. There is panic in the air. For many the drive home is taking hours. It's really quite pretty, though. Huge, fat, wet snowflakes.

    Temps tomorrow up to the low 40s. Snow replaced by the expected rain.

    The very words "OMG It's snowing!" sends me to my car headed for home with a stop at the grocery store...ya never know how long it'll be!  And get me off the roads...too many inexperienced drivers endangering themselves and everyone else on the road...

    about Seattle yet (haven't heard from my kid in West Seattle) but nothing here on the Oly Peninsula yet.  Low 30s in Puget Sound, tho, not unlike Portland.  My neice emailed a couple hours ago from Portland to say she expected 1-3 inches.
