The Civil War (Oregon-Oregon State) is tomorrow night at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. The winner is the Pac 10 champ and heads to the Rose Bowl to pummel Big Ten champ Ohio State.

The Game of the Decade! (Alabama-Florida) is Saturday. Gator DE Carlos Dunlap has been suspended indefinitely. I assume his Gator career is over.

This is an Open Thread.

    C Division Championship Game is this Sunday...making the week feel even that much longer.  We sh*t the bed in the semis in the B...really want this C Title and the second championship fleece of my rec-league career.  

    After the game last week we had the police bustin' our nuts for the post-game beers...no drinking in the park and all.  We told them we never ever leave a can behind, we pay our taxes, and to please bother somebody else...and they let us be!  It was pretty cool...thought we were all gettin' summonses for sure.

    the 1 vs 2 seed...we beat 'em by a td in the regular season...we shall see.

    The sad part is its only 25 bucks to pay 'em off, but if you show up to court you beat it almost everytime...its a nonsensical waste of time.

    on this no matter whether it goes our way or not.  I say have a vote every day if need be.  I'm confident in time enough people will recognize the bigotry of those who vote no and we'll eventually get the right outcome.  I almost feel sorry for those who are voting no, as their childrena and grandchildren will be so ashamed of their public stand years from now.

    And it was an especially "proud" day to be a Democrat when the leading bigot in the state senate (a Democrat) was able to cite the current Democratic) U.S. President's opposition to gay marriage to justify his vote.  Ugh.

    But with a loss of this side, you really have to wonder whose ox is being gored. It wasn't even a narrow vote, apparently.

    of "back to" the courts.  There can and should be a multi-pronged strategy.  

    As for the size of the vote, well I would imagine the real decision was based on a smaller number of undecideds, but that once they decided on no there were some others who just didn't want to stick their necks out.  In other words, the final number is likely somewhat misleading.

    of political momentum on judicial momentum--and vice-versa.

    I honestly believe that this will come down to the psychological satisfaction of Anthony Kennedy at the end of the day (I would actually expect him to be leaning in the right direction now, given that in many ways he is the quintessential "village" Justice). And if he votes the wrong way, it'll take 30 years to move ahead again.

    about momentum, however I think that both political and judicial momentum can change much more quickly than I think you do.  It certainly did here in Massachusetts.

    Also, I'm not so sure the question is going to get to the Supremes that quickly.  I think by the time it gets there it's possible that the composition of Court could be quite different.

    we would be having a very different discussion, I think.

    I think the Boies-Olson case will likely reach the Court either during this Presidential term or the next one--assuming that we have at least one win at the district or circuit level (and that's a BIG assumption). I would worry about losing Ginsburg before I would expect Thomas or Scalia (let alone Roberts, Alito, or Kennedy) to step aside.

    Breyer I also worry about. It seems to me that he is actually worse on questions of liberty than Kennedy.

    ago, the Catholic church had a major political choke hold on this kind of stuff in Massachusetts (even stronger than the church's influence in NY now).  And marriage equality didn't seem too high on people's radar here into Margaret Marshall did her courageous deed on the Massachsuetts Supreme Judicial Court.

    Momentum can change quickly, it can change on a dime, and it can change for all sorts of reasons (see church molestation scandal).  IMO, the best thing to do is keep firing on all cylinders in the meantime though.

    If the case reaches the Court that soon, my prediction is they would try to craft as narrow a ruling as possible.

    It's a little more open than a magazine subscription (which IMO has many merits as a gift), but is of about the same duration.

    You could just ask (unless you're really into the whole surprise element).

    Have you seen this? The connector box eliminates the mailing of DVDs from Netflix and you just select and watch directly from your TV. My daughter has one on her tv and the family loves it.

    only time in my life that I've rooted for anything or anyone from Alabama, but here's an early good luck wish for the Crimson Tide to upset the overexposed and annoyingly self-righteous conservative Tim Tebow and the Gators.

    Also pulling for Nebraska to upset TX.  Not a big fan, generally, of the overexposed and annoyingly self-righteous Lone Star State, especially for the couple of wacko warmongers they've sent to the WH.

    Hoping somehow, against all hope and reason, for a Boisé Etat vs Cincy BCS Championship Game.

    and communicate actual human feelings, which is already a step in the right direction. And the players dont have worry any more about hanging garlic in their lockers for protection against the undead, besides.

    He seems like a good man and a bright football guy and the players (genuinely this time) all seem to like him, even though the nutzo fans around here aren't willing to give him a chance and all have their hearts and wishful thinking set on Shanahan, Holmgren, Parcells, the possible reincarnation of Vince Lombardi etc etc

    Just to show you how sick the fan thing is, Im actually starting to like T.O. And he's not even gonna be in Buffalo next year. Go figure.

    Your boys lost their best offensive and defensive players -- Washington never got enough props,IMO -- talk about a tough row to hoe. I have a feeling Sanchez is going to wind up being really good, if he can deal with all the scrutiny and finger pointing he's been getting and will coninue to get. The guys got the tools, the same way Stafford does. Tough job to work miracles at in your first year, though.
