Saturday College Football Open Thread

Bowl season starts today. I'll make my picks for the weekend:

Central Florida plays close to home in the St. Petersburg Bowl against Rutgers. Rutgers is a 2.3 point favorite. I generally lean to the warm weather school in bowls generally and the crowd will almost certainly be all pro-UCF. I like UCF (+2.5).

In the New Mexico Bowl, Fresno faces Wyoming. Fresno has been to bowls consistently. Wyoming not recently.More importantly, the talent differential between these 2 teams is large. The line is Fresno by 10.5. I like Fresno (-10.5) in a big way.

In a Sunday game, I like an inspired Middle Tennessee (+4) over Southern Miss.

    of a football fan but it's an open thread and i'll make a comment about something else.

    It seems that the "progressive blogosphere" is now getting a taste of their own medicine since they are all now being identified as "racists" by the Obama Administration. I'm sorry but this is all too rich for me not to ROFLMAO!!

    for his vote?  An opt in?  LOL.  If that happens, everyone in government should just quit their jobs ASAP.  

    After all the work, time, political capital, speeches, etc. the whole thing is then made optional...

    I think that it may be a catalyst for breaking the conservative gridlock on getting health-care to people too in states that have leaders that attempt to first Opt-out, though that will take time of course. I am not for anything Opt-In that doesn't have a robust Medicaid expansion though or Medicare buy-in.  If they gut the legislation anymore than it is and then make it optional that is intolerable and worthless in the longrun.

    we should know more about the mental health of women who experience an end to a pregnancy (whether through birth, miscarriage, or abortion)?  I mean, I get the whole thing about abortion, but don't you think that many women who make this agonizing decision have some effects to their mental health - even if temporarily?  Would you be ok if they took out the part of studying the mental health of women who had abortions?

    reading with the Secretary having to make market determinations of different coverages and then "provide" that coverage, but maybe I'm not understanding what is being written of.  I've no reason to ever expect a public option and now one has materialized out of thin air?  How does this happen?  A public option with a possible $2,000 yearly deductible for an individual policy does not sound like fun, but that is the deductible cap and does not reflect what the actual deductibles could be.

    conversation, but we are waking up here in MD to a foot of snow, with another 12 to 18 inches expected before it's all over...a nor'easter with temps cold enough to turn all that moisture into snow.

    It's beautiful out here in the country, but we are supposed to get blizzard-like conditions by this afternoon - hoping the power holds up!

    Did some shopping last night, in lieu of today, so will spend the day wrapping and getting some things done around the house, and I think there will be some cookie baking going on as well.

    Fire crackling in the fireplace, got some cocoa heating up for the snow-shovelers and am starting to get that wrapped-in-a-cozy-cotton-ball feeling that heavy snow brings - the hushed and peaceful quiet interrupted by only the sound of the snow shovels.  Bird feeders were filled yesterday, suet cakes put out, and birds are most appreciative - at least I assume they are!

    TV is not on at the moment - the local stations are in full big-snow mode, blathering on and on and on.  My favorite (sarcasm) part is the reporters stationed around the region to show people what they could see if the would back away from the TV and look out the window...

    So...time to feed the hungry; everyone who's in the path of this storm, stay warm and have fun!

    ...he was wrong on two counts--(1) that Fresno State would win the game and (2) that they would win by more than 10.5 points.
