While they complain about Jon Meacham, what would the Village Bloggers do without him? I mean waving poms poms can only hold their audience for so long. Meacham provides them catnip.

    A contest between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama would offer us a bracing referendum on competing visions.

    obvious why he is the favorite of Morning Joe.

    but it is very Beltway-ish to act like the jury is still out on whether the voters might prefer the Cheney agenda.  Remember, Democratic Presidents never get a mandate.

    Michigan beat Florida in the 2008 Citrus Bowl and the 2003 Outback Bowl.  Of course neither game held a candle to Michigan State's thrilling win over Florida in the 2000 Citrus Bowl.  Note that all three of these games were played in Florida's home state.

    Since Florida began its current bowl streak in 1991 they are 3-4 against Big Ten teams.  Of course, that's 3-1 against teams not from Michigan so maybe the league should stop sending its lesser lights.

    Even the name Cheney gives me a headache.  Must be a slow news day...catnip is right.

    Meanwhile, Glenn takes Evan Bayh to the woodshed and gives him a licking he won't soon forget.  It's a classic.

    If rumors are true that Huckabee, when governor, granted early release to the number one suspect in the killing of 4 Lakewood (near Seattle) police officers yesterday morning.

    I used the Holiday Music radio stations on the long drives last week.

    Song most likely to be ruined: Little Drummer Boy.

    It's a song about humility and generosity.  Why do Les Artistes feel they need to put their own stamp on it?  

    Song least likely to be ruined: Sleigh Ride

    The original arrangement is smart and almost perfect.   Generally, no one tries to mess with it.  They just serve it straight up.  

    Utter tripe: Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmas Time

    I listened to a lot of cheesy holiday tunes, but that one tops them all.  From the lyrics to the arrangement, I can't wait for that song to be over.  Even Faith Hill's Where Are You Christmas? can't beat it.  

    Final Note:
    I developed a new appreciation for Karen Carpenter's singing.  She never forced lyrics or over played them.  OTOH Les Artistes sometimes made me regret they ever decided to record holiday songs - too much ego, not enough restraint.

    of optimism on the healthcare front today from Sam Stein.

    There is also the potential for recriminations if he votes to uphold a Republican filibuster. One lawmaker hinted that Reid and others already have made it clear that Lieberman would risk his chairmanship on the Senate Homeland Security Committee if he were to do so.

    "Nothing focuses the mind like a death sentence," the lawmaker said.

    I don't know about that particular bit, but it's not a bad article.
