Pakistan Indicts 7 for 2008 Mumbai Attacks

Pakistan has indicted seven members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The seven, all in custody, are: Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the “mastermind” of the attacks; Abdul Wajid alias Zarar Shah, also of the LeT and described as a “facilitator and expert of computer networks;” Hamad Amin Sadiq, who is charged with “facilitating funds and hideouts” for the Mumbai attackers; Mazhar Iqbal alias Abu al Qama, described as a “handler;” Shahid Jamil Riaz, who is described both as a facilitator for funds, as well as a crew member of a boat used by the attackers; Jamil Ahmed, described as “facilitator;” and, Younus, also a “facilitator.”

All have pleaded not guilty. The seven include the two alleged masterminds of the attacks, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Zarrar Shah. The Court refused to indict LeT leader Hafiz Saeed. [More...]

According to the Islamabad government, India has not provided evidence that Saeed was directly involved in the Mumbai attack.

The group has come under renewed focus since it was linked to a U.S. terrorism investigation following last month's arrests of David Coleman Headley, 49, and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, in Chicago. Lashkar-e-Taiba has denied any link to the two men.

The two men are accused of plotting with two unidentified Lashkar-e-Taiba associates, including a senior operative, and Pakistan-based al-Qaida commander Ilyas Kashmiri to kill an editor and a cartoonist at Danish paper Jyllands-Posten.

India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today the planner of the 11/26 attacks is still free in Pakistan.

with Fareed Zakaria, God it was so chilling. Once they traced the VOIP they recorded the conversations between the shooters and their bosses in Pakistan. I just gave myself goosebumps thinking about it. The one shooter taken alive.....he was just a kid, and when he was laying there wounded answering questions and saying that his leaders told him they had done such things, it was heart breaking to me. Once again, his frontal lobes haven't exactly come in have they? His leaders have never placed themselves in such danger and death either, they only use those they find that they can use. The accounts of what that particular shooter did were so chilling too at the same time.

gunmen was so sturnned by the big screen TV in the hotel he had to be told to go back to the work of shooring by the folks in Pakistan.

the documentary, the kid was amazed at what he was seeing and the leader on the other end of the phone call telling him he just needed to shoot people and he was losing his focus or something like that. They also told these kids that when you die for Jihad that your face glows golden, something like that. They showed the surviving shooter the faces of the dead others, nobody's face was glowing golden and some of them had horrific expressions on them and perhaps looked like they were even somehow burned. In the video that they had of the boys at different Mumbai locations before the attacks began, it also looked like some of them were shoeless.

Islamabad, since it's Pakistan that brought the charges. Their next hearing is Dec. 5.
