Sunday Football Open Thread

An important week for most teams. For instance, if the Giants lose for the 5th straight time this week, you really can't see them in the playoffs. They play the Falcons today at the Meadowlands. They are 7 point favorites. I think Atlanta (+7) keeps it close.

The J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! have a funny man as coach in Rex Ryan. But the league has been laughing at them now for a month. The Patriots are still discussing Belicheck-4th Down Gate. The Jets have the urgency. I'll take the Jets (+10.5). More . . .

Tampa Bay has played better and New Orleans has played worse of late. Yet, the Saints are unbeaten. I like Saints (-10.5).

San Diego travel to Denver. I still do not respect the Broncos. Neither do the oddsmakers, who have made the Chargers a 4.5 road favorite. I like San Diego (-4.5).

You think NBC is thrilled with its Sunday night Game - Philly at Chicago? Me neither. I like the Iggles (-3).

In other games, I like the Raiders (+9.5), Chiefs (+10), Ravens (+1.5), Rams (+9), Seahawks (+10.5) and Redskins (+11).This is an Open Thread.

in the Denver Post about a guy who got tired of the system and began living in a cave.

And from his cave, he stated that if the Broncos rebound this week, society will be redeemed and he will return to his career.

...that someone who claims to have such an aversion to money and material things isn't adverse to taking advantage of his friend's material goods (like a house) in the Summer's when the cave "gets too hot".

He's not living off the land, he's living off the waste of others, and so he's much more reliant on the society he has "withrawn" from as one might think on first glance.

film on Vikings website.  This a.m. as we waited for bluegrass brunch, lots of people in NFL jerseys walking to sports bar next door.  Including a Favre Vikings shirt.  But no Percy.

When an awful act is committed by non-white non-Christian persons, it's "terrorism", while Tim McVeigh's demolition of the Okla. City federal building is still referenced by the so-called mainstream media as a "criminal act."

Why is Louisiana even a state? Its political class is collectively as inept and corrupt as they come. That's fine is you enjoy being the butt of jokes, gossip and shakedowns, but unacceptable otherwise.

    Oops - gone, Seahawks, 35-9.

Anyway, the college polls are out, the top seven teams appear locked in place - and old habits apparently die hard. Voters still sure loves them some of that USC P.R.

Only eight days after they were undeniably, completely and totally obliderated into smithereens and assorted single-celled microbes by Stanford - you lose by five touchdowns at your own homecoming game, you clearly merit such adverse hyperbole - the idle No. 20 Trojans are once again ranked ahead of the Cardinal, who had the nerve to lose by 6 to Cal in The Big Game (west coast edition).

And for the first time in Pac 10 history, "The Civil War" between Oregon and Oregon State will be both for the Pac 10 championship and the accompanying Rose Bowl berth. The Ducks have already clinched at least a tie for the title, and can win everything outright with a victory on December 3. The best the Beavers do is tie Oregon for first with a win - but with that triumph, they'll smell the roses by virtue of owning the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Pats win.  And they cover the spread.

4 picks is no way to win a football game (on offense).  But it is a good way to get rid of the "Pats defense lost morale" storyline.
