Newt Gingrich on C-Span this morning said he and his wife Callista may run for President in 2012:

C-SPAN: "If you were to run, what factors would you take into account? What would lead you to think about running?"

GINGRICH: "Callista and I are going to think about this in February 2011. And we are going to reach out to all of our friends around the country. And we'll decide, if there's a requirement as citizens that we run, I suspect we probably will. And if there's not a requirement, if other people have filled the vacuum, I suspect we won't." (my emphasis)

    did an interview with Terry Gross.

    I don't remember the exact words, but she said he had remarked there was less grief on the romance front as he aged.  His words were (more or less) that "one is less welcome in that realm".  Something about his wry delivery just made me laugh.

    boffing a staffer in his car in the parking lot in between fulminating about Bill Clinton's immorality during impeachment.  And then after he divorces the wife and marries the staffer, the two of them play filmmakers and make a film called, I kid you not, "Discovering God in America" and go around the country piously promoting it-- with not the slighest, faintest tinge of embarassment or shame.

    again.  I don't know how you come back from being this done though.  My husband thrived on that whole "we are pregnant" thing.  It was an excuse to eat for two or three now.  I gained thirty pounds, and then he wore my second pair of maternity overalls to trick or treat in with the kids.  It got annoying.

    exclude women as it apparently does for females in  military combat roles (Gingrich 1996), because "women get infections" (i.e., menstrual periods--about as good at biology as he was at getting tenured at an inferior institution of higher learning).  But then, people do change and it seems his first lady would now be as modern as Betty Draper.

    But it should be a nervous laugh.  This could actually work for him.  He's not as visibly crazy as the current crop of Rs.

    Morally bankrupt?  Completely.  But being not-visibly-crazy could be enough to rally demoralized Republicans. And some younger and more ignorant Democrats as well.  Especially if O's shine is as tarnished as it's poised to be.
