    We will be watching MILK. (5.00 / 1) (#3)

Spouse phoned, Jim will be reassured to know that he waited an hour and a half for a bad haircut :)  Some things change, some things never will I suppose in the war zone.  I could hear people in the background giving my husband a bad time about his hair too.  I don't know why he's standing in line.  I know one of the guys working with him.  The guy used to cut his wife's hair in an inverted bob once she got the pattern set, too many people messed her hair up all the time but special forces are anal retentive about everything. So Jesus..........just have Roger cut your hair.  He couldn't do it worse than what you just got Babe!  And I heard a lot of other people in the background volunteering and they claimed to have clippers too.

is such a great film.  We were living in San Francisco at the time, in Harvey's district, and we voted for him.  We were there when he was assassinated.  I will never forget it.

I agree.  And I was only in SF once, for a few days.  You don't have to have been there then to relate to the movie now -- and Penn's performance is extraordinary.

All of his friends worked on it I noticed in the credits.  Such an inspiring person.  I was so touched by the phone calls he got from miserable people who came to have some hope.  So many unaccepted and/or hiding miserable people contemplating suicide or attempting it.

Second grade son wanted to go hear Spooky Stories at one of the metroparks.  After many days of struggling with his academic and domestic obligations, he finally earned his Spooky Stories!  A round of spousal arm twisting got him a driver and a chaperone. (Excusez-moi?  You just had a guys' weekend - whaddya mean you're busy?)

According to the son, he wasn't scared at all.  According to the spouse, he wanted to leave before the intro was over.   It's fine either way - he wanted it, he got it.

T]he Cookie Diet. . .has to be one of the best diet scams I've seen in years. I went on the cookie diet myself, many moons ago, back in college. And I lost about 15 pounds very quickly.

I ate two Chips Ahoys for breakfast, two Chips Ahoys for lunch and three Chips Ahoys for dinner, along with all the TAB I could drink. I had to quit it however, when I fainted in English Lit.

I wouldn't last a day. If I don't get enough protein, I become very irritable.

Royalty used to have their pets and servants entombed with them to prepare for the afterlife.  What do Christians think of that?

... in large part because the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Angels of Central Orange County are in the Big Apple, waiting out the rain and awaiting the New York Yankees of The Bronx in Game 6 of the ALCS. ;-)

    WARNING: Baseball Fan Rant Ahead:
You know, I hate both that acronym and "NLCS" - they sound like something for which you'd need an orthopoedic surgeon to examine and repair arthroscopically. And another thing, why exactly wasn't the name "Anaheim Angels" considered good enough for marketing purposes, given that their home field is over 40 miles from L.A. and they won the 2002 World Series under that name?

But I predict that simply everyone will soon be watching Major League Baseball's newest prime time soap opera, "McCourt v. McCourt", on a Court TV or Nancy Grace episode nearest you, with the fate of my beloved Boys in Blue now hanging in the balance.

    Aloha.

The last time I remember a woman being significant in baseball was Marge Schott.  Let's just say that it came as no surprise that she was from Cincinnati.

I don't know the personal or professional politics of the McCourts, but it should be an educational story.  I don't know much about how teams are owned or managed.

    Inspector Napoleon Hendrix (none / 0) (#13)

    has passed away:

Hendrix, who stood at 6 feet 5 inches, distinguished himself not only with his stylish clothes but his knack for cracking cases.

In his 21 years with the homicide unit, Mr. Hendrix cleared more than 85 percent of the 500-plus cases he investigated.

"He was a living legend," said John Monroe, a San Francisco police inspector who had worked with Mr. Hendrix and considered him a friend and mentor, as did many others coming up through the ranks.

"He was a guy who could go out there and talk to people, and people talked to him," Monroe said.

He retired in 1999 after working for the department for 34 years, during which he probed some of San Francisco's most notorious killings, among them the Zebra shootings and the high-rise massacre at 101 California St. Many more were in the shadows of the front-page headlines, often involving young men in the black-on-black gang warfare.

Finished Watching Bon Jovi (none / 0) (#14)
by Jeralyn on Sun Oct 25, 2009 at 01:08:39 AM EST
It's an interesting look at a big band going on tour and you can see what it takes out of them. It's not all glamour. I recorded it onto dvd so I can convert it on the computer to mp4 and then upload it to my ipod and watch while i'm on the spin bike and treadmill. It was a big project, filming them in Dubai, Berlin, London, and twice in New york. The other band members got a lot of talk time too.

Now I'm reading The Help. It's a novel about white women and their African-American housekeepers in the 60's. Each chapter is told from one of the women's point of view.

Set during the nascent civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children but not to polish the household silver. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan is just home from college in 1962, and, anxious to become a writer, is advised to hone her chops by writing about what disturbs you. The budding social activist begins to collect the stories of the black women on whom the country club sets relies and mistrusts enlisting the help of Aibileen, a maid who's raised 17 children, and Aibileen's best friend Minny, who's found herself unemployed more than a few times after mouthing off to her white employers. The book Skeeter puts together based on their stories is scathing and shocking, bringing pride and hope to the black community, while giving Skeeter the courage to break down her personal boundaries and pursue her dreams. Assured and layered, full of heart and history, this one has bestseller written all over it.

It's a page turner and hard to put down. See you all tomorrow.

... because that's the only way I'll truly understand the rationale behind KNBC-TV's lead on its news division's home page:

    KNBC-TV (Los Angeles) | October 25, 2009
Heidi Klum to Design Shoes, Maternity - "Heidi Klum won't let four kids stop her, as the supermodel mother expands her empire to include shoes and maternity in 2010.  And according to her Project Runway protege, Christian Siriano, the two of them will be on Oprah on October 29, when we'll presumably learn more."

A mispost or electronic misfile, perhaps? 'Cause if that's really the lead story, then small wonder why California's doomed.
