VALERIE JARRETT: I think the President has always said that he's committed to the public option. [. . .] He's committed to it, he's pushing for it, and he's absolutely committed to delivering on health care reform this year.

Good to hear. But Mike Allen did not make up his source. Someone in the White House (Rahmbo! (cough!) Messina! (cough!)) is fighting AGAINST the public option. The power struggle is playing out by anonymous quote.

    Time for action, time to come out from behind anonymous leaks, time to put his political money where his mouth is.

    The pattern, though, is that he sends out people with names and faces whenever there has been an anonymous leak that he's considering this, or thinking about that, or leaning toward a trigger, or the opt-out, and these people all say the same thing: Obama is committed to the public option.

    The challenge we face is getting Obama to define "commitment" the way the rest of us do, and that I have not seen yet.  And am not particularly confident that we will.

    option, I'd still leak that Obama wanted a trigger--look at all the push back that happens every time.

    As I said below, it's almost "make me do it" for the cable/blogger age.

    Seriously, though, the push back on the trial balloons floating lame proposals has been as influential at getting public option this far as anything else the last few months.

    If Obama is committed to a real public option, have him work on Dem senators to get it included in the combined bill and put a muzzle on the WH anonymous brigade who are undermining his position.

    Time for sitting on the side lines is over.

    I'm so glad Obama is for 'a' public option. I'm so tired of hearing it through anonymous quotes. Along with the other quotes saying any old thing would be fine. So when we get 'a' bill, with any kind of public option he can take full credit and rewrite history.
    He's articulate but I'm waiting for him to say something and act or even stand behind it.

    I wasn't expecting him to be progressive but I was hoping he wouldn't be such a sop to his corporate bosses.

    Unless I'm badly mistaken, Valerie Jarrett's quote is coming out of her mouth while her face is visible on my screen. Only the Politico quote is anonymous. That hardly qualifies as a power struggle playing out by anonymous quote.I'm going to believe what I see before I believe what Mike Allen tells me - if you want to go the other way, I have this bridge....

    Mike Allen is a stenographer. He did not make up the quotes.

    Someone in the White House gave them to him.

    But ignore that if you like.
