Hillary Clinton Confirmed As Secretary of State

The Senate is now voting on the confirmation of Hillary Rodham Clinton as Secretary of State.

Vitter votes no. I think that will be the only no vote. Ooops. Apparently I missed DeMint voting no.

By a vote of 94-2, Hillary Clinton has been confirmed by the Senate as the Secretary of State.

her confirmation would not give her any focus yesterday when the other top members were sworn in.

They had a right to vote the way they wanted to, but in the end they really embarrassed themselves with their votes and nothing rotten happened to Hillary.

designated himself the keeper of the flame, has held up a vote on Holder out of concerns that he - Holder - might decide criminally prosecute those who were involved in torture.

In his confirmation hearing, Attorney General nominee Eric Holder unequivocally declared that "waterboarding is torture" and has signaled a willingness to investigate Bush officials. But torture advocate Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is holding up the nomination because he wants to know exactly whether Holder will pursue criminal prosecutions of "intelligence personnel" involved in torture.

"It could well be there will be a request to delay the markup for a week so those questions can be asked and answered," Cornyn said. "Part of my concern relates to his statements at the hearing with regard to torture and what his intentions are toward our intelligence personnel who were operating in good faith based on their understanding of what the law was."

    Argh.

would simply have impeded our Democratic takeover by giving Republicans their false sense of persecution by liberals.  It would have rallied their base and given their candidates more than the lackluster support they had.

Now is the time to go after BushCo, and Obama supporters should make it clear that he shouldn't block it and that we want it to happen to prevent future abuses.
