Commander in Chiefs Ball: Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is headlining the Commander in Chief's ball. It's playing on the Pentagon Channel if your cable or satellite system gets it. If not, here's the live feed, courtesy of our United States Military.

They take some breaks but I don't mind waiting. I'll also be watching the Neighborhood Ball on ABC and Youth Inaugural Ball on MTV when they start.

Update 7:37 pm MT: Bon Jovi is on, he just sang "You Can't Go Home" and he announced he's being upstaged. It's President Barack Obama. Obama's comments below:

Obama is thanking the troops and their families. Tonight is not just about inauguration, it's a celebration of our military and military families. Going forward you will have our support and respect. He praised the joint chiefs.

Tonight we celebrate, tomorrow the work begins. Together we will write the next chapter in America's great story.

He introduces the Illinois National Guard 33rd combat team by satellite from Afghanistan. The team leader invites Obama back to Afghanistan and Obama says he will be back. Obama's really chatting them up, from baseball to what part of Chicago they are from. Huge cheers from the crowd. Looks like Obama's going to be a hit with the troops.

Obama introduces Michelle. She was late coming out and he announced, "I think I've been stood up." Then she comes out looking beautiful and they dance. Then they each dance with an enlisted person.

Bon Jovi is back on now. He's not with the band, just himself, the violinist he always plays with and some musicians. He's doing an acoustic version of Living on a Prayer.

Photos:

Bon Jovi says he's the son of two marines and he really wants to thank the troops. He sings "Here Comes the Sun" -- my favorite of his acoustic songs. He says goodnight.

He comes back for an encore of Dead or Alive. And says goodnight for real.

So far, this was the least commercial, least staged ball of the night. Low key, classy and good for morale. Thanks to the Pentagon Channel for airing it.
