Pretty funny imo. Cornyn didn't get the post-partisan unity memo:

The confirmation of Hillary Rodham Clinton to be secretary of state will be held up for at least a day due to the objection of a single senator. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he wanted "a full and open debate and an up-or-down vote on Sen. Clinton's nomination."

Cornyn makes a political blunder here imo. Clinton will be confirmed tomorrow by a 90-10 vote and Cornyn will look petty and partisan forever. Bad political tradeoff imo.

    for another couple of days -- as yet more polls are coming out with ever less support for Kennedy.  Maybe Cornyn is enjoying, as a Southerner, making it messier in New York State.

    on CBS.  He claimed he hadn't made up his mind yet, and said 11 people were being considered.  Also said he wished he didn't have to make the choice.  Would prefer an election.  And he also made the point of the large number of qualified Democrats in New York.

    Reading between the lines, my sense was he's not going to choose Kennedy.

    Technically, there is no open senate seat from New York. I expect Hillary will resign the minute she is confirmed as SoS. And I expect Paterson will announce his choice almost immediately after. New Yorkers will have a new junior senator by the end of the week.

    Cornyn is a loser.  Here's something I've never really understood.  Let's say a spouse doesn't want to do the stuff that people think the spouse should do regarding tangential conflicts of interest?  What is the nominee supposed to do?  Divorce the spouse?  Legally separate?  Would the Congress stand ready to refuse confirmation of a nominee, man or woman, if his or her spouse refused to comply with the requests/demands?

    I've never understood the whole kerfuffle about WJC's charity as a conflict of interest anyway.  Who cares if some country thinks they can get some sort of better treatment from the US if they donate to his charity?  Does anyone really think HRC would actually do it?  It's ludicrous.

    You can only judge that in eight years; if dirt comes out on millions donated to Bill now or later (e.g. lots of people from India donate while Hillary tilts towards India), Cornyn may come out looking prescient.

    petty and partisan forever. Petty and partisan are practically his middle name, and like all good republicans he takes extreme pride in being petty and partisan. The mistakes are being made by those (including Obama) who think today's republicans can be anything but petty and partisan.
