Judge Orders Release Of Gitmo Detainee

From the WaPo:

A federal judge ordered the release today of a detainee at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, ruling that the government's evidence was too weak to justify the man's continued confinement.

It is the second time U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon has ordered the release of a detainee after hearing the government's evidence. In today's ruling, Leon said the Justice Department failed to prove that Mohammed El Gharani, 21, was an enemy combatant because it relied almost exclusively on statements made by two other detainees whose credibility has been called into question by government personnel.

That bit about them claiming he was a member of a London based cell when he was only 11 years old is the stuff that makes me wonder how members of the Bush administration can sleep at night.

"members of the Bush administration can sleep at night" because the Democrats in general and Obama in particular protect them.

used Nancy Pelosi instead of Obama. Though I expect him to protect Bush and Cheney once he is sworn in, he can't really be accused of that yet, can he?

I feel pretty certain that this is why Pelosi and the Democratic leadership put him in office in the first place... to protect Bush, Cheney, and their own complicity.

When will he be released?  I will believe it when I see it. I would love to see George W. held in contempt if they refuse to release this prisoner.

    apparently he was. (5.00 / 2) (#4)

So, what, was he 14 when he was dumped in Gitmo?

according to article, he was taken into custody by the US sometime in 2002, putting him in that age group at the time.

of course, this was after he'd spent his errant youth as a member of a london-based terrorist cell.

he won't be released until after jan. 20th. bush will continue to ignore the courts, as he has throughout his entire administration. nothing will be done about it.

i've seen this movie before, it ends badly.

    He's 21? (none / 0) (#3)
