Tuesday Open Thread

As readers know, I sign most of my posts "speaking for me only." The reason I do that is because it permits me to say some stupid sh*t and sometimes some smart sh*t that other folks may not want to say without it reflecting on two of the nicest, fairest, sharpest people I know, Jeralyn and TChris.

Our contentious blogging colleague John Cole has had some fun at my expense about that phrase. That's fair and funny. But I wish John would credit me when I write one he likes. For instance, Country first my ass about John McCain. What say you John?

This is an Open Thread. And yes, I am speaking for me only.

    About the FDR thing... (5.00 / 3) (#1)
by Salo on Tue Sep 30, 2008 at 06:29:09 PM EST
...do you seriously think Obama has that sort of leftie reform character?

His book AOH went itno great detail about how the New Deal was crumbling and that Reagan had pretty much bureid the project.

I might add that Obama shed no tears during that particular exposition of the FDR v Reagan compare and contrast chapter.

I feel half inclined to 1 rate anyone who even suggests Obama's fit to hold the mantle of FDR. To back it up i'll quote to the hapless reasearcher and propagandist posters from Audacity of Hope about the New Deal being defunct.

Doesn't anyone read hard copy when they do their research anymore?  Is it all just talking points for the week latching on to any popular sentiment or is there any real substance to the campaign?

But this "nominal allies" sh*t has got to stop.

Atrios' attitude to Somerby's critique is indeed the problem of the Left Blogs - logrollers in our time. Just like the Media.

They have become that which they claim to hate.

mainly, about manipulation.  Should it surprise anyone that manipulation corrupts? BUT...

The debate really was about tone though I think.  When I saw it I posted here that Obama's confidence, his sudden lack of ums and ahs when discussing foreign policy, probably contributed to Independents coming to like him more than McCain(at least those held hostage by CNN!).  Obama projected his foreign policy ethos in his manner.  Obama was completely in control of that conversation.  We have a Democrat whose strength lies in foreign policy - Obama's X factor of opposing the Iraq War from the beginning is still functional.

knows where her and others money come from. Wall Street has given her $1,889,622 since 1989. Of course Obama dwarfs that with $27,942,613 since 1989 and he hasn't even been in office State of Federal since 1989 so he amassed that in a record short time. No wonder he is chastising the 'No' votes to vote Yes.

Opensecrets.org a non-profit, non-partisan 25 year old investigative organization started by Senator Frank Church which closely monitors the influence of money in politics used public information to gather those figures. Dodd and Franks don't look so good either in what the have cashed in on from Wall Street.

Open Secrets says that those pushing the legislation have received a minimum of 50% more than those who are not pushing it. Here is a table of the figures name by name.

are the ones pushing the legislation the hardest. Coincidence? And Obama's 27.9 million combined with how hard he is pushing for these guys lately so they get 700 Billion? Coincidence?

I'm a long time believer in 'Follow the money'. It always tells the story without fail. That is why I have been so disappointed with the Democratic Party for many years now. OpenSecrets is not BS. It marches to the beat of Frank Church's spirit. The numbers are real. It is only whether the money influences which is subject to interpretation. That is an easy call imo.

    And Pelosi:

Pelosis' net worth was $14.7 million to $55 million in 2005, ranking them ninth in the House and 17th in the entire Congress.

The bulk of the Pelosis' money comes from investments in stocks and real estate.

    Wow another coincidence.

Clinton is to be expected being from NY the home of Wall Street. and yes she too is business friendly but still takes care of the people. McCain is another story altogether.

But Clinton and McCain does not diminish how much Obama has received. And it doesn't change his behavior of pushing hard for 700 billion for the people who fatten his wallet.

Just sayin you know. 27.9 Million and saying bankrutcy is not necessary in this bill! What's in your wallet?

some Dems flip flop. Or maybe some dems and some republicans flip flop. There's lots of combinations to get the votes.

Maybe Obama can get all the votes in the CBC. He seems to want this bill. Of course, so does McCain.

by Fabian on Tue Sep 30, 2008 at 10:09:31 PM EST
This has nothing to do with Wall Street at all.  It's just a cheap ploy to get you to look for an apple called, well, "GoldRush". (It may be spelled as one word or two.)

GoldRush is a late apple, lightly russeted.  Russeted apples have rough skin - please don't be turned off by this!  Inside you will find a very firm, crunchy apple that is sweet and tart and flavorful.  The vendors who introduced this apple to me last fall liked it for fresh eating.  I'm not fond of firm apples for eating out of hand, but these apples are excellent for salads and cooking.

(Perhaps if I push really good apple varieties, the dreadful Red Delicious will slide into oblivion.)
