    Reflecting on the debate (5.00 / 2) (#1)

Tonight just didn't seem as important to me as any of the debates in 2004. I can't place exactly why, but there's something vaguely cartoonish about this election. It's like 2000, but in reverse. I'm going to sleep on the feeling, and see if I can explicate more later.

Oh, and I don't have a very high opinion of Al Rogers. He showed a very ugly side during the primary.

    I didn't recognize the name (5.00 / 1) (#2)

But I thought I should credit the source for the photo I posted. Come to think of it, I think you are right and he was banned from TalkLeft many months ago.

I'll edit to leave in the link but eliminate his name.

Sounds like it, but McCain wouldn't, would he?

    I say no.

Which also is what he said.

As the diary says.  A diary with hundreds of comments.  Says it all about that place (warning: links to DKos).

Almost worth clicking there to read the priceless line that there is no "more trusted source" than Olbermann.  Who heard it live.  And said that McCain said . . . "'Course not."

    So your point was?

so . . . how screwed are we the people going to be? Will main street be part of the plan? Oversight? Regulation? Or are "we" handing it over on a silver platter when all is said and done?

Why do I have zero trust and confidence in this?

ironic when Bush made his prime time speech.

He said that people shouldn't be concerned about money on deposit in commercial banks because those deposits are covered by the FDIC up to $100,000.

Ironic because the FDIC is part of the New Deal that conservatives, like Bush & co., would so love to completely trash.

The fact that this comes up so close to the election makes me think that there may very well be a "bi-partisan" solution that will rescue the reckless greed machine and leave everyone else high and dry.

Bi-partisan always means let's screw the average guy.

McCain should retire now... (none / 0) (#13)
by Rennie on Sat Sep 27, 2008 at 03:36:10 AM EST
McCain had an embarrassing performance on Friday night. The best thing he could do for himself and for the country is to end his campaign as soon as possible.

It does not matter so much that he apparently has no strategy and no vision. What is worse that it became apparent that he himself does not believe in what he is saying. This was particularly evident in McCain's direct attacks on Obama. He was not able to look Obama in the eyes when he said the things McCain himself knew were untrue.

McCain should quit his campaign before his situation might get worse.

What will happen if McCain decides not to give up?

I believe that there will be those who will start to seriously review his war record. Why? McCain presented himself today as a weak man, someone who has something to hide, someone who is afraid, and someone with a secret.

We know McCain's official version from "Faith of My Fathers." McCain himself admitted that he somehow renounced his country under torture once.

Do we really have the full story? When will one of his fellow prisoners reveal the real "Hanoi Hilton" story?

I feel sorry for McCain. Instead of risking ruining his reputation, he should retire now.

... do you mean "... Condition ..."?  Because that's from the sixties.  I've always loved that song.  But yeah, it's the same Kenny Rogers.

But it's hard to dislike the Islands in the Stream duet with Dolly Parton.  I even like her Marie Antoinette-like wig :)
