Time's Jay Carney Gets Intimidated By McCain

This is what you get when you work the refs the way the McCain camp has - Jay Carney capitulates (probably the first of many):

Summary: In a Swampland blog post headlined "McCain's Legitimate Attack," Jay Carney wrote that unlike previous McCain campaign ads that included "false and distorted assaults" on Sen. Barack Obama, McCain's "new ad ... attacking Obama 'and his liberal allies' for failing to lead in the midst of the current financial markets crisis" is "entirely within bounds." In fact, the new McCain ad contains falsehoods about Obama's response to the current economic situation and his tax proposals.

Carney could not take the heat from the McCain campaign and folded. What a hack.

On January 23, 2007, Carney wrote in Time.com's Swampland group blog that in late 1994 and early 1995, Bill Clinton's approval ratings were "mired in the 30's", whereas they had reached 37% in 1993, but rose into the 40s and 50s in 1994 and 1995.[2][3] In a follow-up post, Carney wrote that the reaction of some who posted comments to his original post "proves nothing but that the left is as full of unthinking Ditto-heads as Limbaugh-land."[4] By the end of one day these two Carney posts had received over 900 comments.

That Media Matters takes issue with, McCain is right on one-  Obama will raise your taxes, fantasies of a middle class tax cut notwithstanding.  But so will McCain, despite his own claims to the contrary.

As for the other, well, Obama has done what he always does-  spout some high-minded "principles" that he ignores later (as in his quasi-endorsement of the Paulson Plan on GMA this morning.)
