Bush's Third Term. It is pretty obvious, but it seems to have taken a while for the Obama campaign to get back to the narrative of John McCain as Bush's Third Term. This Obama ad is what we need:

    watching Pat Bucchanan basically say the same thing as you just did last night.

    There was a gleam in his eye. Things had reverted to what he expected.....and now he expects Obama to win.

    I think he secretly likes Obama, in spite of himself.

    Because Obama can't run touting himself because there is nothing to tout so his only chance is beating down McCain. Problem is every time he opens his mouth lately he gives McCain ammo to turn back at him.

    And then of course he keeps pissing off his base. Now the base will still vote for him because they lack principles - but it is the Independents who will determine the election, and they will see the base pissed at Obama and also see that Obama really has nothing substantial to run on, meaning pretty words and typical pandering don't add up to  anything, and they will make their choice based on those two things.

    you can thank Obama for that because it will all be on his shoulders for losing.

    I've thought from day one that Obama would be an incredibly weak candidate. Seeing how he does worse than a generic Democrat for President I don't think there is much doubt that he is weak.

    Running against McCain as Bush III has a place but not a prominent one as has been suggested many times here. Obama's problem is not McCain, it is Obama.

    So if he can't sell himself it does not matter what he says about McCain because McCain's experience and perceived 'Maverick' image will win the day, or probably better put will be the lesser of the two evils for Independents.

    Bottomline running a Bush III campaign will not win a thing. McCain can put enough distance between himself and Bush so voters don't buy that argument. And as much as people don't want to admit it McCain has not been lockstep with Bush all the way. Just two examples would be Iraq, in which McCain disagreed in how Bush was conducting operations. And the second example would be the Bush-Cheney Energy Bill which McCain voted against and which btw Obama voted for. So McCain has more than a couple of example of not being Bush III and that is all he needs to kill that line of attack.

    Now I am not a McCain supporter nor an Obama supporter. I am a disappointed Democrat. I am also not an Ostrich who ignores McCain's strengths as a candidate as I feel the front pagers here do. It is just not smart to ignore any opponents strengths in any field of life particularly in politics. But you know, if people want to pretend that certain things don't exist then like the Ostrich they could end up getting bit you know where.

    If Obama loses, blaming the voters for his loss is like blaming the victim.

    If he doesn't run a winning campaign, he doesn't win.  And that isn't the voters' fault anymore than it's their fault that it rains.

    Just what did they expect, and increase of a point a week? This is a heavily divided country, and we tend to vote Republican for president much easier than Dem.

    It's also important to remember that Obama leads McCain in state by state polling, and that he's created some pretty uncomfortable battleground states for Mac.

    Just wanted to say thanks to BTD and Jeralyn for posting the campaign ads.  I live in Boston so I don't expect to ever see any on TV.  It helps to see where the campaigns are headed.  I hope Obama continues with this tactic.  I am still waiting for all of McCain's comments on Iraq from 2003 to show up in an ad when he was Bush's biggest chearleader.
