Hurricane Gustav is dominating the news. Bob Dylan is headlining Jazz Aspen tomorrow night. And I'm not going to pass up a chance to highlight the plight of the wrongfully convicted. So here's Bob Dylan singing "Hurricane" about Ruben "Hurricane" Carter.

Gov. Palin is yesterday's news. Big Tent Democrat may decide to write more about it, and you can continue the disussion on his threads. I've had enough. Time to change the conversation to other things. This is an open thread for other topics.

No one even brought up the Democrats who supported Obama like Pelosi, Kennedy and Kerry. Do we want to start talking about their real estate? What about Democratic celebrities like Bruce Springsteen? (I've driven past his mansion in Rumson, NJ. It's about the size of a city block...)
It's just stupid. How about discussing actual issues and/or policies?

who, every so often, will call me to vent and complain about the same thing she always vents about - my brother, who is her husband. I listen, offer some feedback, try - yet again - to make some progress, but at some point she will just say, "okay, I don't want to talk about this anymore."

Because it happens with some frequency, it doesn't hook me the way it used to; there's nothing quite so frustrating as having more to say and being told to shut up. And be left holding the bag of someone else's emotions.

Thanks to Jeralyn for being a good host at her blog. While I disagree with her regarding Palin, I don't think anyone could argue that she didn't provide forum for plenty of discussion on the topic today, and one of the virtues of TalkLeft is that it's about more than just the topic of the day.

because too many people were trying to access it at the same time. The average length of a site visit here has shot up to 6 minutes. At most big blogs, they are a minute or less.

This only happens on big news days and I'm reluctant to invest in another new server but am looking into it.

There were over 1,000 comments today here on Palin.

Not because there will be big worthy news, but because the public has a taste for the thrill of it all. Controversies, scandals, and stunning turns-of-events - it's like popcorn with sweet crack topping. We can't get enough of it.
6 minutes per site visit sounds pretty impressive to me. But remember that the great Warner Brothers cartoons were all about 7 minutes long. What did Bugs, Daffy, and co. have that you don't?
( Personally, I usually end up spending about a minute of every website visit trying to mentally decipher the various acronyms, slang, and abbreviations that are being used on that given day. This probably averages two minutes per visit when there's a higher number of typos than usual. Sigh. )

CNN was reporting that they may postpone it until after Gustav. They don't want to be seen partying while the country is suffering. Smart concept! I guess they're afraid of another Katrina backlash.

ABC News gives the impression that the answer is: not very.

The selection of Denver as a host city was an insult to Colorado voters.

Apparently the McCain campaign statement begs the question...if it is an insult to choose Denver, then why did Denver ask to be chosen? Obviously the McCain campaign doesn't believe residents of Denver have any clue as to what is good for their city or state.

Sorry to get all Ms. Grammar here, but the incorrect use of this phrase is a pet peeve of mine.

But sometimes if a person's screen is open on the post before the shut off it lets them post another comment. None of this is rocket science, it's a script that's in place and it does change the thread from "comments enabled" to "read only" when the 200th comment is posted, but some get through after that, probably for the reason I just gave.
